Right so here goes. I've met a girl. It's been a while lol. But I really like her, and I'm pretty sure she likes me  ::blushing::

Anyway, it's her birthday coming up and I thought I'd get her something simple, but meaningful. Growing up in a house of women I thought this would come more naturally but then I suppose gifts for siblings are different to that special someone. Anyway I know she enjoys journalling and writing so I thought I may get a really nice journal, not a cheap notebook style, something really nice. I know she will use it everyday and hopefully be something she keeps for a long time to come. Is this a bit "cheap"? Should I be putting something with it? We aren't a "couple" so to say, but it seems to be heading that way so I don't want be too forward just yet.

Maybe the girls can give a bit more advice on this one pleeeeeeease!

No, it's not cheap :)

If you have just barely met and are not a "couple" I would not spend more than $50, closer to $30.  More may seem too over the top and may scare off a gal, KWIM?

chosenone

How about a nice, but not tooooooo expensive pen to go with it.

Thanks to both of you. Fassopony, we met about 8 months ago but just haven't spent a lot of time together because of circumstance but have spent more time together the last few weeks. We chat everyday. I wouldn't spend too much because I also don't want her to feel like she need to reciprocate. But I take your advice on board.
Choseone, a pen is a great idea, thanks   ::smile::

IDK, the journal is going to run out of paper and the pen out of ink eventually. Why don't you get her something she can always use, like a library card.

And the library could burn down and then she'd just be left with.....a card  ::pondering::

I have received journals as gifts and whenever someone includes a pen with it, it is an even nicer and more well-thought out gift. Get her a really interesting, good pen. I received a lovely pen with my initial on it last birthday. Whenever I use it, I think of the person who gave it to me...

I suppose, if you only have 1 library in your city. But more than likely the city will build an even better one after a fire.

A journal with a pen sounds very well thought out. It says to me that you listened to what she was saying and that you support and encourage her dream to write. I bet you could find a nice pen at a Christian book store.
