Back in the days of Israel,  when  Jesus was born.

Did your father have to be a Jew for you to be a Jew?

ROJTC

So being that the Father of Jesus was not a Jew.  How was he a Jew?

Jesus was a Jew because His mother was a Jew.

What does it have to say about this in the old testament?  Do you know?

ROJTC

The Rabbi Snidyer(misspelled) of the Jewish Jesus tv show said that in the days of Jesus your father had to be a Jew for you to be a Jew.

That is what he said.

ROJTC

Then I has someone that said they were a Jew tell me that up till the time Jesus was born your father had to be a Jew for you to be a Jew and after the time Jesus was born your mother had to be a Jew for you to be a Jew.

I wonder what one of those Orthodox Jews in Israel would say?

ROJTC

Maybe we can find the answer in the Torah?

According to the genealogy from Mary, on His human side Christ is descended from the Israelite tribal patriarch Judah and his descendant King David (Luke 3:31, 33; compare Acts 2:30; 2 Timothy 2:8).

Perhaps common sense will show you that as Mary and Joseph were married before Jesus was born, He would be a Jew based on Joseph. There is no way He wouldn't be a Jew born into that family.

Either way the word of God called him a descendent of the House of David. That's enough for me.

ROJTC

Matthew 22
41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
43He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
44The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

I will ask you the same question?

ROJTC

If it don't add up, it is not the total sum of the equation.

He was a son of David in the sense of His being a descendant...that terminology is acceptable, just as  the Jews are called sons of Abraham.

Mary has no geneology in recorded scripture. All we have was that she was a close relative of Elizabeth (John the Baptist's mother) who was a "daughter of Aaron." (Luke 1)

5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.

That indicates to me that Mary was from the Tribe of Levi, and probably a "daughter of Aaron" herself.

All three.

I would submit you are using the word "Father" in a different way than it was used in the first century.

It did not mean just your immediate male parent.  It could also mean an adoptive male parent, or any male predecessor by birth or adoption.

No.

There is nothing in the text in Luke that indicates that Heli was Mary's father.

That is an extra-biblical assumption to try to disambiguate the 2 different genealogies in Matthew and Luke.

Luke 3.23 Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,

Not son-in-law.

Matthew was the legal and royal bloodline while Luke was the natural blood line of Joseph. They were often different.

ETA: (edited to add)

Alexander the Great had his legal royal lineage modified to make him a descendant of King David.  So did the Royal families of England.
