It's time to "Play Ball".  Before the season starts, I want to make two bold predictions.

1 - The Florida Marlins will not be repeat World Series champions.

2 - The curse will finally be lifted from the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs and they will meet each other in the World Series.  The arms of the Cubs will prevail.

What's your thought?

Kevin

OK Kevin,
Where is the Texas Rangers on the list?
Oh never mind...... I lapsed in my "dream mode" again...
can't tell FANTASY from REALITY!

Rangers BEAT the Yank's in the division playoffs...

Then SWEEP the World Series...doesn't matter WHO they play!

Oh sorry ... happening again ... where's my pills?  I know I left them somewhere.....

I am a Ranger fan, but I think they will have a good year if they win 65 games this year.  They are building for the future, I hope the future comes soon.

Kevin

Mere Nick

I've been a Braves man for years, but it looks like they are folding the tent.  I'll go with the Cubs.  Good thing I get WGN.

It is also good that you picked the Cubs, Spurly.  You're not one of those seeking to undermine the very foundations of this great nation by supporting the Great Abomination, the designated hitter.  If we were meant to have the designated hitter, it would have been revealed to St. Abner.

Kevin,
You are CORRECT!

It should come sooner now that we have a T-E-A-M (read "group of players working TOGETHER") since Hicks is paying "The Evil One" (G.S.) to take our "ONE PLAYER STAR".

At first I liked A-Rod....but I lived in the Metroplex for 5 years (all 3 A-Rod years, just got out of Dodge myself)...he just was not involved in the community or nuthin'.  Not like Rusty, Raffy, Mark M., Kenny R. and others.

I think it was obvious he didn't want to be there.  Now some of the "Young Guns" can get after it.

I just wish they would settle the infield.  Now there are reports Buck is thinking about moving Sori from 2nd to left field and put our Gold Glove Mike Young BACK on second and place Manny at Short......  All with 5 DAYS till opening!!!

Anyway stanger things have happened....although I can't think of one right now!

Oh Well...

Go RANGERS!!!!

where's my pills...I'm lapsing back into "dream mode"....

Did anyone get up in time to watch either of the games from Japan?

I'd rather see the Brewers play the Devil Rays (or even the Yankees play the long-hated Dodgers) than see the two media/celebrity darlings play in October.  Besides, SI has already eliminated any possibility of a Cubs championship this year.

If SI eliminated the possibility of a Cubs World Series Championship, I will have to bow to them - aren't they always right?   :shrugsmiley:

I wasn't clear--SI proclaimed that the Cubs will win the Series and put Kerry Wood on the cover.  Therefore the Cubs are officially eliminated. :saint:

The Cubs Will Win The World Series

Colorado Rockies - that is my prediction until the season starts.  After the start of the season I would guess one shouldn't bet against the Yankees.

marc

I accidently left the Pirates out of my list. Don't know how I could forget them, considering the tons of e-mail they've sent me ever since I bought a Pirates ticket online a few years back.  Put 'em just above the Brewers, unless Mondesi channels the spirit of Roberto Clemente.

boringoldguy

With their beefed-up pitching, I think you have to give the Astros a nod.   At a minimum, they're going to be an exciting team to watch.

(And I detest the Astros.)

Bon Voyage

I am dreaming of a day when we return to the glory of 1986.

When do you think you will wake up and your dream will become reality?

Kevin

Bon Voyage

Well it appears I was off by two years.  I should have said 1984 World Series.  And its gonna be a long time.

marc

Okay, now it makes sense.

But you don't see a Tigers/Padres rematch this season? Or maybe a rematch of the Philadelphia A's and the New York Giants is more realistic?

Bon Voyage

Can't blame someone for being a dreamer.  But I don't think Pudge is gonna make a difference.

kondoo

The Rockies are on their way - 1:0

Yeah, Fisk is too old.  I didn't know he was still playing. Surely he can't catch anymore--but hey, this is the American League; he can still DH. :saint:

Kevin,
:noworries:
I hate to say "told ya' so"...but I think a NEW poll should be done to include the TEXAS RANGERS!!!!!
After the wonderful 3 game S-W-E-E-P of the Red Sox, the Rangers have the BEST RECORD is baseball..... and taking into account the first 19 games were in their OWN division...which is the TOUGHEST single division in baseball!!!!!
:noworries:
16 and 9.....where do I go to order World Series tickets?????
Where's my bloood pressure medicine???????

Go Rangers!!!!!

Gaylan

PS...Don't forget this is without the "supposed best player in baseball"..... I still think the best player in baseball STILL plays in Arlington.....just don't know whether it's Hamerin' Hank Blalock or Micheal Young!

Yep.  Texas is doing good.  I'll probably make it to a couple of games at the Ballpark again this year.  Dickey did a great job last night - just wish he could have gotten the shut out.  We will have to wait and see where they are in September.

oh....let's not wait till September....let's just call it a season right now....while the Rangers are HOT...and the weather's NOT!

I'm afraid the heat of July and August will melt us again.....

BUT, until then, ain't "The Kids" fun to watch!

Gaylan

Son of a Preacher Man

Growing up, I was often privy to watching the Rangers as they were in 1st place in JUNE.  But I've spent a lifetime watching them fold in JULY.  More's the pity.

rick6886

If Tom Hicks will go out and get a Tom Glavine or CC Sabathia to help his staff the Rangers will not fold in July. They have a great young infield in Texiera, Soriano, Young and Blalock. Laynce Nix in CF is going to be special some day, and there are far worse options out there than Mench and Delucci in Left and Right. Cordero has been superb as a closer which leaves starting pitching as the potential achilles heel.

THe starters have been great so far, but realistically they need another frontline starter if they wanna hang around with Anaheim. Glavine and Sabathia are guys on teams going no where who would love the chance to get on a contender. Tom Hicks saved a lot of money unloading A-Rod now lets see if he will spend some of those savings on a frontline starter and give his organization a big vote of confidence.

My humble 2 cents

Rick
