Hello fam.

I'm looking for an office job or even an active job that can bring in at least $12-$20 an hour. I want to increase my income to at least $25,000 so I can give a bigger 10% to my church, give back to my mom, and stop Sallie Mae from bugging her because I'm behind on my payments. I want to get out of the mindset of selling myself short because the only jobs that I have worked have all been minimum wage, and I have never worked more than 40 hours in a week. (I think this may put me at a SEVERE disadvantage.)

I feel that I may have more time and focus to job search if I deactivate my Facebook. I am honest enough to say I am guilty of seeing what everyone else is up to, and sometimes I feel bad because I wish I could come to their birthday parties or special events. And this guilt and use up emotional energy I need to focus. HOWEVER, I also heard that jobs can think you are insecure or think your hiding things if you don't have a Facebook or decide to put major privacy on your Facebook page.

Feedback?

Nevertheless

Turn off all of your FB notifications, then make a rule for yourself, such as, FB only between 8 & 9 pm, or only certain days. Then stick to your rule.

This is a good approach from two aspects. First, you are limiting rather than eliminating your FB, which may be more impressive to employers. Second you are exercising self control, which will make you a  better employee and benefit you personally. Self control is like a muscle. It must be exercised to be strengthened.

No job that pays $12 an hour is going to care one way or the other. I suspect the vast majority of jobs that pay $20 an hour will not care either.

Some jobs might care if they find poor choices posted on fb, but the lack of a fb account shouldn't bother anyone.

I have never looked up someone's fb page while making hiring decisions.
