Finally saw this.  I had put it off because of all of the horrid things I had heard about it, and was surprised to find that I liked it very much.

Much of what I heard had to do with disappointment at the film's surprise.  What was this big surprise, exactly????   I didn't see anything in the film that hadn't been pretty much telegraphed from the beginning, and thought the movie was more about theme than plot.  I didn't think the twist, if you would call it that, at the end so much made you reconsider the rest of the movie (as in Sixth Sense) as it did simply take all that had gone before to its logical conclusion.

I suppose that if you were watching the movie waiting for some big revelation that would shock you, you would be surprised.  But like I said before, I thought that what made the movie interesting were its sociological insights.

People are reacting to this movie as if it were a bad horror movie.  It was not a horror movie at all.

edit:  I've gone looking for reviews to see if I was the only one who saw the movie this way, and Peter Travers in Rolling Stone echoed my thoughts.  So at least I'm not totally insane.

Son of a Preacher Man

I saw it coming from a mile away, too.

I think M's movie Unbreakable is one of my favorites.... it got no props either.
