Acts 1.6-8

I just returned from our annual Tikkun America conference:COMPELLED - the Urgency of the Spirit.

The leader of our sister congregation in Jerusalem (Asher Intrater) taught from this passage:

Acts 1.6 (NASB) So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?"
7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

Note the question in v6 and the answer.  At first glance it seems like Our Risen Lord bypassed the question altogether.  But Intrater said not so - that WAS the answer. IF you take the answer as bypassing the question it assumes that "restoring the Kingdom to Israel" is irrelevant.  It is NOT.  What He says next is HOW the kingdom is to be restored to Israel:  "you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you" and "you shall be My witnesses." 

If you have the power of the Spirit (tongues, prophecy, healings, miracles) but not the vision of the Spirit (restoring the kingdom to Israel) you are just playing around with a loaded weapon and can do a lot of damage. 

I would encourage you to get a CD of the message. Obviously I cannot post his entire message here.  And I would like to discuss his point.
