New to Grace Centered and looking for a book

Hi. I am a Christian and seeking a closer walk with God each day. About 34 years ago I read a book about a preacher who would crawl into an old hollow log and pray to God. He would receive specific and detailed directions from God. I enjoyed the book and was so blessed by it that I lent it to a fellow Christian who in turn lent it (without my permission) to another Christian who failed to return it to him. I am looking for that book. I feel called to be a prayer warrior and I was so encouraged by this preacher's dedication to seeking God for direction. It has been a long time but the thing that stood out the most was that he would find an old hollow log and pray until he received an answer. I have found a book by G. C. Bevington which is very similar but I do not think it is the one. I know it has been a long time but I really hope someone can help me find out the name or the preacher's name in this book. Toward the end of the book he speaks of God telling him to go to a town and when the train got there he was met by an "old Negro" who told him God had told him he would be coming. That stuck with me because I am African American and the fact that he wrote "Negro" just stood out to me. Anyway, I hope someone can help me. Thanks.
