Explain 'manna' please?

Hello , as you can see I'm fairly new at this ...
Would someone with experience please explain to me the 'manna' that is shown under the members names. I see some have a 0 and some members have many hundreds. How and why ?

Once you get a few more posts, you will see a small link under the user's info:  [+manna]

It's simply a way of showing appreciation to someone for something did or said.

This is a perennial question from the new members. 

"We gave you manna which you did not know..." (adapted from Deut 8.3)

And it fits so well with the meaning of the word: "What is it? ? ?"

To the mods: An explanation would be a good candidate for a pinned FAQ thread.

Hello DaveW ... Yes as a newbie I searched the word 'Manna' on the site search, but came up with nothing. I had no idea what it was for, let alone where it came from ... it would be good to have it explained somewhere. ::nodding::
