Nevertheless

Yes, but the activity was not productive. I'm sure it will be unlocked after a short cooling off period.

It was obviously productive to those engaged in the discussion. I sure got a lot out of it.

It was locked because people were just arguing in the end and that isnt helpful.

Then why not warn them and keep the thread open? Why punish everyone?

It is not "punishing everyone," but rather, giving people a chance to cool off so they can discuss the matter in a more civilized manner.  We try to extend as much grace to people as we can, especially when they are new.  Locking a thread in the short term can often be a better solution in the long term.

It's punishing everyone when everyone is blocked out of using the Thread.

this should be in a private message to a moderator not in a thread.

2.6 You will not publicly question a moderator's decision or accuse him/her of being biased or dishonest because of a decision. This will result in deletion of your post and possibly cause your account to be banned or suspended. Questioning of a moderator's decision may be done by sending a polite private message to the moderator who made the decision or other moderators.

I have not accused anyone of being bias or dishonest. Just wondering why.

Your are ignoring the first part "You will not Publicly question a moderators decision.." That is what you are doing.  The correct way to handled this is given in the rule but you continue to ignore that so I am issuing a warning.
