All true Marian devotions will always lead to chrsit as savior.  Look at the holy lives of the saints.
I personally was healed in an instant from an addiction by saying the rosary for the first time.

I love what Jesus loves and he loves his mother
Matthew 12:46-50

Jesus' Mother and Brothers
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you."

48 He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

It says his mother and brothers not the children of Mary these children where from Joseph's 1st marriage Joseph's was older and his first wife died
Or
They where Jesus's cousins since there was no word for cousin in Aramaic you can see that lot and Abraham are called brothers but are not brothers

That is an entirely made up story to try and  pretend that Mary never had sex with her God given husband, and never had children. Its entirely untrue and unBiblical, I am astounded you cant see that.  ::eek:: ::frown:: ::shrug::

There is nothing in the Bible that says that Mary had sex with Joseph.

There is nothing in the Bible that says Mary had other children. There are some things (e.g. "brothers") from which you can infer that Mary had children - but no proof.

There are also some things from which we can infer that the "brothers" mentioned were not Mary's children.

There are many things from which we can infer that Mary remained a virgin.

revmitchell

What are those things in scripture that we can infer Mary remained a virgin?

Matthew 13:55 "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?" (KJV)

Matthew 27:56 "Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children." (KJV)

Just want to say, it would be kind of silly to have a husband and not get it on at least once. God never commanded her to remain a virgin, only that she would have a child despite being a virgin. Come on, it's common sense...

Beware of summoning the dead. We go to God directly.

First, I think it's important to clarify.  I do not mean "worship."  By having a devotion, I mean love, honor, respect, and, yes, pray to her.  No, Mary is not God.  However, she has compassion for us, and wants to assist us in our relationship with her son.  She prays for us in the same way that a faithful pastor would pray for his congregation.

It is dangerous to imagine things about Mary that are not revealed in Scripture. Devotion to any human being is not only a distraction, but easily become idolatry. There is one mediator between God and man and that is Jesus Christ alone. Do not summon the spirits of the dead or petition them to intercede on your behalf. That is strictly prohibited. Jesus bridged the gap between man and God and as Christians who know and believe this, we go directly to God in Jesus name, period.

God loves all of His children. She was chosen for a special task, as were many in the Bible such as Peter and Abraham and Moses, but she is never to be lifted up above others or prayed to as that is forbidden.

Quote Should Christians Red have a devotion to Mary
I do, that was my mother's name. The Mary's of the scriptures are all sisters, nothing more.

My wife and went to Taos, NM for a ski trip with our kids and grandkids over the holidays and one of the days we toured the Taos Pueblo. There was a historic Catholic church on the tour and we were allowed inside. At the front of the small sanctuary there was a huge mural of Mary in the center of the front wall, and over to the right in the corner seemingly as an afterthought was a statue of Jesus that was about 1/3 the size of Mary. I thought that was odd, but wasn't surprised that much.

There have been so many debates about this here...

I believe we should have respect for what she was called to do.  Devotion?  No.  We should devote our lives to serving Christ.  Mary is my sister in the Lord, I will be happy to meet her and talk to her about child raising in Heaven.  I owe her no devotion or any kind for what Jesus did for me.  He alone is worthy to be praised. He alone died for my sins and He alone merits my devotion.

It is more rational to think that He has an eternal influence on her life.  He being the Son of God and she being a human being who He saved on the cross.

Amen, devotion as I understand the meaning is to God alone.    I respect all people, regardless because we are made in God's image.

It should be known that the Roman church has a long history of corrupting the Word of God.

Beginning with the edicts of Roman Emperor Constantine, who made Christianity a legitimate religion, the Roman church has taken upon itself rules and regulations and interpretations that God did not intend.   Worship of Jesus' mother is one of these.   ONLY Christ is to be worshipped.

Nowhere are we told to worship or venerate Mary. In fact, Jesus plays down her role stating that we are his family.

Catholics do not worship Mary. That piece anti-Catholic bigotry has been made and refuted many times. Repeating it over and over again doesn't make it true.

1) The bigger-than-life Mary of Roman Catholicism is a FALSE portrayal of the Biblical Mary (the Bible never portrays Mary as being anything more than a godly woman used by God).

2) She's dead. why have devotion to a dead person?

Love and respect? Sure. "devotion"? no, sorry. My devotion is to JESUS DIRECTLY.

Christ made her our mother when He died on the cross,

NOWHERE in the Bible did Jesus "give" mary to us.

He entrusted her to john because He knew john was going to outlive the other apostles.

and in life she had the greatest influence with Him.

Sorry, that is NOT what the Bible shows. Jesus didnt even refer to or recognize her as His mother.

It is rational to think that, even after death, she would still have an enormous influence on Him,

No offense, but that is nonsense. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God and mary is not in the picture at all, neither are all the other physically dead sinners.

which is why it is reasonable to send our petitions to her.

Praying to a physically dead person? ugh, no thanks. The curtain in the temple was torn so that we can have DIRECT access to God.

Going "through" mary reminds me of a child who, knowing daddy will say "no" will go through mum and ask her to ask him.

Jesus said come unto ME.

Can you show me anywhere in the Bible where anyone prays to anyone other than God?
