Is there a way for a user to know who and where another user gives them manna?

MeMyself

No...but I think that would be a cool feature to have.  I would like to let someone know why I gave them manna. ::smile::

His_will_i_am

I agree. Oftentimes I give manna rather than open praise.  I just realized that people can't tell where or when it's coming from. In my case, it could help people understand I may not be challenging them, rather trying to draw out knowledge or understanding with my questioning.

Sometimes we simply type "+1" to allow someone to know they've been given manna, although that phrase is often used in others forums where there is no reputation merit system in place.

His_will_i_am

Ok. Thanks for that.

::pondering:: So it amounts to a popularity thing like on that worldly social network FB or I suppose the other ones: "Like" or "so many people "Liked" this? It could be easily accomplished privately by simply having a private "thank you" message sent to them when the "mana" button is pressed..

::shrug:: PLEASE inform me of the measures Gace-Centered has put in place in order to ensure that everyone is fairly and justly awarded mana??? :that ALL of us have been charged with the duty and responsibility and given precise parameters and guidelines for rewarding mana, as without having instituted such and having it in place there is no way that mana could mean anything, anyway; just as those "likes" on FB and others. One could have their biased spouse, friends, people they have awarded them to, and even themselves as another member in incognito award them. Many could be due them which weren't awarded.

::shrug:: This IS a Christian site and I am sure that they would not want to start strife and competitive-ism and egotism and feelings of inferiority over who has the most mana.

ADDITIONALLY, didn't Jesus say something about doing things God wanted us to do in public for the public's recognition and/or reward?: like, that reward from mere man is all they will get and NOTHING from God in heaven?

Alan

OTOH, why allow other peoples manna count to affect you? You're right that it grows in the company of cliques, but it matters little to the discussions here on the forum and should not let it affect you one way or the other.

It was probably started as some lighthearted fun, but people sometimes take things way to seriously.

The answer to your question JB, in the private message you sent me, is - yes This is this a Christian site.
It seems you might need some manna. ::smile::

That is correct. We also used to have "smites," which subtracted 1 from the manna count. Smite wars were lots of fun, but some got their knickers in a knot over it, so the smite feature was disabled.

I used to regularly post at another forum (still do on occasion) where I have many more posts made than I've made here.   My "manna" count there is equal to about 1/3 of my post total.   I feel that at that forum the approval rating there does get to be competitive, but, on the other hand, it's nice to know that someone is reading your posts or appreciates your efforts, which are hopefully not based on soothing one's ego.

This Grace Centered Board is a tough crowd.  Compared to the post count the manna count is often pretty low compared to other forums.   I have witnessed another board where they have the "smite" system and the result of that is a group of like-minded folk will collectively attack one who disagrees with them and they do it to be mean-spirited.   I don't want to type here the words often used at a particular forum, one of the largest on the Net, where they'll use common four-letter words and worse as part of their "smites."

Right now this forum has a fair balance in place.   No matter what the forum owner does some will be pleased and some will be displeased.   My personal opinion is that based on what I've seen elsewhere I think that the Admin has made this Board about as fair as possible.   We're not over-moderated here and we're not slammed with derogatory and obscene comments made toward one another.

I agree! This is a good and safe place.  ::smile::

To be honest, I rarely remember that the manna option is there. I gave one the other day, but that was the first one for ages.
