Anyone else find the season of having young adult children to be the most horrible season of parenting ev.er?

Oh man!  SO hard!  We just had a "come to Jesus meeting" and re-chalked the boundaries.  I had to own what was mine in my being afraid to communicate and wishing they would notice things...ugh...and they were gracious and kind to hear me out and take into consideration my feelings. They really are wonderful people.  This new season is tricky tricky tricky!

Nope!

My thirteen year old son is amazing. Now I don't take the full credit for this. There are two major factors involved: God and Martial Arts.

Learning about Jesus has helped to understand how one should treat others (basically).

Learning about martial arts has taught respect, focus, and confidence.

Is there bumps in the road from time-to-time, sure, but rarely and not like the stories I hear from my other parents.

Get involved with your child's life. But also give them some space to discover things on their own as well.

jeffrey do you see it as ok for Christians to be involved in martial arts being where their roots come from and their connections?

That blog post is wrong.  The author likely googled "karate" and clicked on the first link that came up.  Martial arts do not teach anything that contradict God's Word.

Thats what many says about yoga as well, but I beg to differ.

This has been a horrifying season with 3 of our 4 kids and the 4th one does not speak to us.

I've removed this post due to the delicate subject matter regarding my family, I did wish to share it with the OP and the other posters involved in this thread to give my own input concerning the battles I am dealing with in my own family. Thank you all for your concerns and I will continue to pray for those that are facing trials in this season  ::pray::

Paint The Fence is evil?

Nevertheless

Nah, but Wax On/Wax Off is!

Alan, your situation sounds as complicated and stress inducing as mine.

Years ago, I purchased a yoga VHS that featured Dixie Carter (of Designing Women). Her yoga speak was very generic, and she mentions during the exercises that she was raised as a good little Methodist girl and couldn't bring herself to use some of the terminology that others do in yoga.

I hope things continue in such a positive way, but just to let you know, don't count your chickens quite yet.  ::smile:: Some kids wait to rebel, and do it big time, when they hit 17-18 or so. Also, when boys get to about 15-16, that tidal wave of testosterone can push them to do things you'd never imaged they'd do. Mercy.

::hug::  Oh, Alan, I am SO very sorry. This has to be such a painful thing to walk through.  May God move on the hearts of everyone involved and restore relationships.  ::hug::

With all due respect, Jeffrey...13 is NOT the age I was speaking of.  18 and up is what I was meaning.  Those of mine that have navigated the 13 year old waters were still just sweet little kids...this "adult child" season is a whole other beast.  ::giggle::

Amen, 13 is still very young and they are still pretty 'human' at that age. About 14-16 for girls and about 16-18 for boys seems to be the worst, then when they get to 19 or 20 ish the come back as humans again. ::smile::
