wincam

is it all likely or feasible that Sarah and Elizabeth did not consummate their marriage and have many children - wincam

chosenone

No, nor Mary. Why wouldn't they consummate their marriage? Its what married people are supposed to do

Nevertheless

Sarah, wife of Abraham, and Elizabeth, wife of Zechariah both consummated their marriages and had one child each. There is no "likely" or "unlikely" about it.

wincam

exactly - one child each just like Mary - so what is the problem - wincam

The problem is your lack of logical thinking. The number of children one woman bears has no bearing on the number another has.

Bathsheba & Rachel each had 2 children, therefore Mary had 2 children.
Zebedee's wife & Rebecca both had twins, therefore Mary had twins.
Bilhah & Naomi each had 2 sons, therefore Mary had 2 sons.
Or, to use your examples of Sarah & Elizabeth:
Sarah & Elizabeth were married & barren until well past childbearing years, then each bore a son, therefore Mary was married & barren until well past childbearing years, then bore a son.

Do you not see how silly all of this is?

If you are trying to say that a woman can be married for many years and only have one child, simply say that. No one will disagree. But saying that Sarah & Elizabeth prove that Jesus is the only child Mary had is just foolish.

If you want to make that comparison I am perfectly fine with it.
So according to you Mary had one child from her marriage with Joseph. Deal!

wincam

what is really silly is you and others accepting and imagining what is not in the Bible and insisting that it is - lets just have a bible inspired by God and not by any Tom, Dick and Harry - twinc

Other families have 20 children, so what? What you say proves nothing. The Bible says that Jesus had siblings, thats what we must trust, Gods word.

there is this great tendency to wild imaginings - that the bible says Jesus had brothers and sisters is not in doubt or dispute but what is in doubt is that Mary had children other than Jesus - wincam

Why does it threaten you if she did have other children?  Is it about you wishing that she didn't have sex with Joseph ever, ever, never, that's nasty? ::shrug::

wincam

the threat is to believe what is not in the Bible - so be it if you wish but do not try and mislead others - blind leading the blind etc - wincam

And to believe what is in the bible, that Jesus had siblings, is to realize that you are in error.  Your dogma prevents you from seeing the truth.

Whats not in the bible is that Joseph was married before and had other children, but its what you believe isn't it?

The bible says Joseph married Mary, who was with God's Child, and it says that Jesus had siblings.

wincam

I believe that Joseph was and must have been the father of the so called/stated  brothers and sisters of Jesus and I believe that it is stated in the bible that Jesus had brothers and sisters but it is not stated in the Bible that these brothers and sisters were/are Mary's off spring - wincam

So, then you admit to believing what is not in the Bible.  Where the Word is leaving us to conclude contextually that the children were from the union of Mary and Joseph together, you have decided that can't be true and so you make up your own version. ::shrug::

Why are you so threatened by Mary having made children with Joseph?

it is not I that needs cautioning for what I believe is in the bible - it is what you believe and accept and insist others accept that is not in the Bible that needs cautioning and correcting as Jesus said blind leading the blind - wincam

Oh, dear wincam...you can't even see it, can you?

What you believe is NOT in the Word.  It is a made up story completely, based on nothing but wishful thinking and a desire to put someone up on an unfair pedestal.

That others believe Jesus siblings were of Mary and Joseph is based on the context of the story.  There is no biblical evidence at.all. that Joseph was married before, or that Jesus siblings were just his and not Mary's.

you just cant see it can you - no context or contest - it just is not in the bible or the Church inspired by the HS to correctly interpret here as also elsewhere - wincam

The truth is, there is nothing to base what you believe upon...nothing...just thin air.

oh dear- what a shame - it seems you just cant and will not see it is not in the bible or what the authorised Church teaches - wincam

Yeah MeMyself! How can you be so blind not to see what isn't there.
Only a truly enlightened person know how to interpret things that aren't said.

Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus (Luke 1:34-38), but the idea of the perpetual virginity of Mary is unbiblical. Matthew 1:25, speaking of Joseph, declares, "But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave Him the name Jesus."

The word "until" clearly indicates that Joseph and Mary did have sexual union after Jesus was born. Joseph and Mary had several children together after Jesus was born. Jesus had four half-brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). Jesus also had half-sisters, although they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:55-56). God blessed and graced Mary by giving her several children, which in that culture was the clearest indication of God's blessing on a woman.

Strange is it not that the three most highly elevated women in the Bible did not have many children but the one must despised did - wincam
