"And Adam said this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman.., Gen. 2:23. Here is an example of true intimacy. God created man and woman with a special kind of oneness. "For this cause man shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." This kind of oneness is what we call intimacy. The sexuality between man and woman is God's gift within the covenant of marriage. It is an expression of love and unity. "And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."
"And the eyes of them both were open, and they knew that both were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons." Gen. 3:7. "And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden." Sin separates, alienates and causes people to hide from one another and God. Adam and his wife hid from God because of sin. They no longer saw each other without shame. Sin had destroyed the intimacy that God had ordained for man and woman.  The eyes of their understanding would forever be changed. Oneness and unity had been broken by disobedience to the word of God.
Truth is the bond of unity, has we share, we grow closer together in oneness. Oneness is maintained through communication. We must speak the truth in love and follow after the things which are of peace where by one my edify another. Unity is preserved through peace. Whatever we do in word or deed the overriding concern is to maintain peace. We must pursue peace at all cost. Whatever the sacrifice we must be willing to make peace the controlling purpose of our lives. "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." Heb.12:14.
