I'm tired of hurting.
some pain goes away
not the dark pain.

For them.

Confused lost out of reach;
hurting and helpless at the divide
we can't close.

For me.

Imagining, hoping for the magic.
an opening, and the light comes in, going out;
in-breathing whispered, "Ahhh..."

For the magic

When passionate awe
is enough to open the world
making both, theirs.

For the last time

It's greater than the magic.
I can't make it go away.
I have to go away.

When I retired from my engineering job, I did what I always wanted to do.   I became a teacher.   

Nineteen years later, I'm retiring in a few weeks.   So many wonderful kids who turned their lives around while I was there.    But it's getting harder and harder to see the ones who don't.   It's heartbreaking, sometimes.

I told Mrs. Barbarian that I was feeling conflicted about my last year; I wrote myself a note, saying what I felt.   This was it.
