Tomorrow (Saturday) is the Kentucky derby running.  There are no particular favorites, so I'm rooting for the one-eyed horse to win.
Forgot its name. But l like to root for underdogs!

I've been to Churchill Downs, but not during the derby. That experience is on my bucket list, though.

Well, you best have the most attractive hat there when you do!    ::crackup::

Yes! I have a friend who attends every year. She said I could borrow one of her hats.

My paternal ancestors are from that part of Kentucky, so my heart is there for that reason, but watching the horses run in the Derby would be an extra special treat, for sure.

Churchill Downs has lost most of its quaint aspects as it has been expanded into a huge complex compared to what it was like when I was kid.

I went to the Derby as a thirteen-year-old and a fourteen-year-old.  They sold Mint Julips to friend of mine without even asking for an ID, but they are so watered-down it would take about twenty of them to do anything to you but make you run to the rest room.   One of those years I was approached by a single older gentleman walked up to me and asked me to join him in his private box.    I'm sure he had nothing impure in his mind.

You have to be insane to enjoy the Infield, but most of those folk drink to insanity and forget where they are.  The others who can afford the real seats are there to rub shoulders with all of the celebrities.   Guy Fieri is having a big shindig tonight at his new downtown restaurant.   Those with the really big bucks are at the Barnstable Brown affair.  Richie Sambora is giving away a custom guitar for the fourth year in a row. It will be raffled for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes charity.   Last year he got $40,000 for his guitar.   He'll be there jamming with his new child girlfriend, Orinathi, along with Travis Tritt and some others whose names escape me right now.   My son was invited to the Barnstable Brown affair one year as his band was entertaining on the main stage.

I like horses and I like visiting the horse farms.   Many years ago I walked up to Secretariat and gave him a few pats.   Those retired race horses are treated much better than most humans.    It's all too rich for a middle class conservative like me.    The gambling side of this "sport" has ruined a lot of lives.   I know a man who spends almost all of his retirement money at Churchill Downs and other places where off-track betting is allowed, and he goes out dumpster diving and collecting scrap metals so he can have money for food.   How stupid.   This is more typical of how people who have the racing bug live than most of us will ever know.

Now, now, notreligus. Examine your own "conservative" lifestyle before judging others. You, yourself frequent secular concerts, where you pay top dollar for choice seats just to be as close as possible to a celebrity. People at concerts are known to dance, drink to excess and hook up. You've also stayed in casino hotels, have you not?  ::smile::
BTW, what you describe also sounds like most college and NFL stadiums during football games with fan on fan violence, drunken brawls, betting, excessive foul language, etc... At least at Churchill downs, they dress better for the debauchery.  ::smile::

lea, that one-eyed horse's name is Patch. He was named Patch before he lost his eye.

For some reason, this horse Patch reminds me of this song-

I was so busy working this weekend past that by the time I got home I missed Harry Connick, Jr. singing the nat'l anthem - and the 2-3 minute race.

Patch didn't win but he didn't come in last either! 14th, I think. Plus he won other races that qualified him for the derby.

Notice how all the horses that had cool names had good odds?

Well, I just like horse racing period. My uncle wrote a sports column for years in the Baltimore Herald as a handicapper.

I won more than lost at the races in New York. I guess that's why I still enjoy it.

Always dreaming is a cool name.

Dreaming of some horse steaks.
::nodding::

So hungry that you're resorting to horse meat?

Here, I'll send you some of these, instead -

Would love to see that of another Triple Crown. Back in 2015 was awesome!
