Do I have to upload a pic to a photo sharing program? Does it have to be a particular size? Can I use one from my computer?

You can upload from from your computer by going to your profile and selecting the "Forum Profile Information." Then click on the "I will upload my own picture. You'll get to browse images on your computer and if the one you select is not too large, the image will be your avatar.

If it's too large, you can select the "I have my own pic" option. Go to a site like http://www.photobucket.com and upload your picture there. Then you can link to it (they'll give you an exact link to it) from the box by the "I have my own pic" option.

I see the option to choose either an avatar provided by the site or to upload one from a website but I can't find the option to upload from my computer. I tried to upload one from photobucket but it didn't show anything but a little square, does that mean it's too big? Do you know the pixel size it needs to be?

Upload your pic to photobucket. Then once that process is done you can upload it to here.

Hmmm...that photobucket upload should have worked. It should have automatically resized it. It's possible you posted the wrong link.
