Just saw the movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It showed the responsibility that goes with parenthood and how involves we should be with our children's lives.

Jaime

I saw it this afternoon. Awesome, life changing  movie.

sunshine4God

I just saw a preview for this movie and would love to see it.

I just saw it.  It may not be the best movie ever made, but it's at least a really good movie.  One of the better religious movies ever made.

Then I went online and looked at reviews for the movie...  While nearly every single IMDB user rating was 8-10 stars, virtually none of the film critic reviews were above 2 stars.  The only exceptions of this being those from christian oriented websites.

I don't see how a movie could anger as many people as it did simply for existing.  The simple fact that it was made for the religious fathers out there seemed to be a hot iron under the seat of these critics chairs the entire time they were watching the movie.  More than one even cussed the films producers simply for existing, while most included a line like "having religion is fine, but don't shove it down my throat."  I really fail to see how simply making a movie is shoving anything anywhere.  They spent their money making the movie they wanted to make, then released it to the theaters who wanted to show it.  They didn't force anyone to purchase tickets. They didn't hold anyone down and tape their eyes open so they couldn't not see it.  All they did was put it out there for those who did want to see it.

I loved this movie, it comes out on dvd on Jan 17th... the reason it gets such bad reviews is the powers that be and that have the $$$ in Hollywood are liberal, and for all those actors it means you are liberal or you don't work... it is a huge industry...

sunshine4God

I'm looking forward to it coming out on Dvd.It looks really good.

I saw this movie the other evening at a local church and it was a really good movie. I think every man that calls himself a child of God, a husband, or a father should watch it. Very good movie!!

JohnDB

The movie at times is rather Cheesey. (as is all of their productions)

Occasionally if you are watching closely you can see the actors reading their cue cards.

But the themes in the movie are good and there are a couple of scenes that are really great.

Such as when Haveeair (however his name is spelled) is trying to look for work and missed out on his construction job and then while standing in the alley praying the main dude tells him by name to get to work that he isn't paying him to stand around all day....and that later on when they realize that there has been a mistake and try to figure out who is scamming who and neither was scamming and still questioning each other...kinda a great scene.

It could have been like Pulp Fiction or hundreds of other high dollar Hollywood products and just been an overall pile of crap. The story more than salvaged any shortfall on the acting.

The movie has a great message, but the suspect acting is hard to overlook. I mean for Christians it is great , but I doubt watching it with non christian friends is a possibility. They would not take it seriously

Jaime

As opposed to movies like Pulp Fiction?

EmmieCA83

I really wanna see this movie. I enjoyed Fireproof very much. I don't mind that the acting is not the greatest, it is the message the movie is sending that really touches me.

Jaime

Yeah, you can watch bad acting from Hollywood all day long and not have any message.

FollowHisGrace

I actually thought this one was better than "Facing Giants" or "Fireproof".  A lot more action and the acting didn't seem as forced.  Like everyone else, I thought the message was so tremendous that it outweighed any short-comings!

JohnDB

No one is faulting the perpetrators of the film.

It is simply that when it comes time for gifts to God we like the best (as is the tradition) to be placed upon that altar.

In America we can do much much better with our religious movies and faith based films. We have the talent and technology to make the best of the best movies for this but we have yet to do any of that.

It used to be done with such old greats as Moses and the Ten Commandments with Yule Brenner and etc...but lately this sort of film is as good as it gets....

But I am hearing rumblings of some new films coming out with much better acting and direction and sets to be a top notch film out there. Promotions are being worked out now so that way the film can be seen. It is currently in the can and edited and only waiting on the promotions and distribution of it.

We, as a people, can do better. Not that those who have gone and done something did their worst...only that they did their best but that it isn't as good as we can do.

Jaime

I still say we can see Hollywood's 500 million dollar best and still not be out of the crap category. Story always trumps acting. Hollywood hasn't had much of either lately. Thank goodness for these folks like the ones that made Courageous. It would have been a great story even if Earnest T. Bass was playing the lead.

Jean74

We got the movie on DVD as it was a great movie. Need to sit down and see those movies again from the Sherwood Baptist Church!

Jaime

For those that critique the movie, I say don't think of it as a movie. Think of it as a great sermon acted out. Which that is exactly what it is.

PS: JohnDB, I suffered through the original 10 commandments with Yul Brenner again this weekend. It was a lot better 30 years ago.  rofl Talk about questionable acting. Kinda like watching early John Wayne films. They were much better in my memory than in reality. The church that made Fireproof and Courageous has nothing to be ashamed about, especially with the difference in budgets and messages.

This movie only appeals to men who are Nancy's.

That's a terrible thing to say! Some good men and fathers have been greatly affected by the movie, and many have come to Jesus through its message.

betsy

I love this movie!  How to deal with loss and grief - that viewpoint is priceless!

Not men who are idiots?
