See this is all nature of human no one is going to punish you for this(except doing it in public). If you can name someone who is punished for such sort of stuff..... ::smile::

Public or not, your guilt is still on notice.

Did Jesus cuss?
If calling someone a whitewashed tomb or a brood of vipers was considered cussing in that language and culture then yes.
QuoteAnd the Bible doesn't say masturbation is a sin.  Does that make it right?
OFF TOPIC.

See the appropriate threads for that answer.

Hmm...that is a good point.  But was it because Jesus was stating that they weren't doing God's work and instead practically doing satan's work?

The masturbation thing wasn't off topic.  It doesn't say cussing is a sin in the Bible and I was giving an example of something that wasn't considered a sin in the Bible.  Not off topic.

Valid point but still off topic as it could hijack the thread into another direction, and there are already several threads in other folders discussing that topic.

To explain my point even more and to provide better evidence...

Look at it this way: If Jesus was standing and talking with you, would you use cuss words with Him? If you don't use them around the preacher, why use them at all?

When I was 16, I realized that I turned my cussing off around adults and on around teens, I was afraid that I would use it around the pastor, or worse yet, around my dad who would have knocked me into next week. Neither of my parents used it, and I did it only to be accepted by other teens. So at age 16 I turned off all use of profanity and haven't used it since for 50 years.

Do you use it when (and if) you pray? If you think there's nothing wrong with cuss words (as some "Christians" claim), then why don't you use it around the pastor or while praying? Perhaps that's because you're not convinced it's pleasing to God.

I completely agree with you on that!

Language is subjective. What word in one language is taboo is innoculous in another.

And languages are alive. Meaning that meanings shift and word usage is more traditional than definition based.

IOW what once may have been vulgar is now clean speech and what is now vulgar used to be clean speech.

Jesus clearly cussed out the Pharisees. So what if God cussed you out? Are you going to claim you are holier than God or that God sinned?

Coarse language of course shouldn't be part of your regular speech. "Unclean Speech" is more about degrading & tearing down people with or without the use of coarse language.

Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." First Peter 3:10 declares, "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech." James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue: "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

James makes it clear that the lives of Christians—the "brothers"—should not be characterized by evil speech. By making the analogy of both salt water and fresh water coming from the same spring (which is uncharacteristic of springs), he makes the point that it is uncharacteristic for a believer to have both praise and cursing come from his/her mouth. Nor is it characteristic for us to praise God on one hand and curse our brothers on the other. This, too, is uncharacteristic of a true believer.

Jesus explained that what comes out of our mouths is that which fills our hearts. Sooner or later, the evil in the heart comes out through the mouth in curses and swearing. But when our hearts are filled with the goodness of God, praise for Him and love for others will pour forth. Our speech will always indicate what is in our hearts. "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45).

Why is it a sin to cuss / swear / curse? Sin is a condition of the heart, the mind, and "the inner man" (Romans 7:22), which is manifested in our thoughts, actions and words. When we swear and curse, we are giving evidence of the polluting sin in our hearts that must be confessed and repented of. Thankfully, our great God is "faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). When this happens, we receive a new nature from God (2 Corinthians 5:17), our hearts are transformed, and our speech reflects the new nature God has created within us.

I dunno what it is that you are trying to say.

I have said as much before you posted.

What I am referring to is coarse language. There are certain words that are dictated solely by current traditions which are taboo. But I don't think that God considers them so taboo considering Jesus' behavior as quoted in scripture.

Why are you asking?  Trying to see if you can get away with something you already know you don't need to be doing?
Think God's waiting behind a tree hoping He might hear you cuss so He can take your name off Heaven's role book?
What's the big deal between "A" specific sin, and sin?  Didn't Jesus already cover ALL your sin?  That's past, present, and future.

As a born again Christian I feel that cursing is a sin because when do you usually do it? When you are angry, frustrated, hateful, want to express something negatively, etc... You curse or snap for a minute or so and you portray someone who is not Christlike. What example are you being to others? They see this and think its ok to curse as well.

I know that God has changed me- "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" ~2 Corinthians 5:17
So back in the day I use to curse and use foul language, I'm human so sometimes I slip but thanks to God I check myself and pray for forgiveness and the smarts to not do it again. Repition, practice, and prayer allows you to overcome this habit.
Be a positive example, check yourself, pray for forgiveness if you slip, and pray for a clean mind and tongue so you don't have to use foul words!

Be Blessed,
Jerome
