I am not a fan of "worship bands" but lean more toward worship leaders.

Paul Wilbur
Marc Chopinsky (and his son Ellie)
Kent Henry
Barry and Batya Segal
Robert Stearns

I have played with/backed up Paul, Marc, Ellie and Barry.

I embrace being able to show my ignorance.

What exactly qualifies someone/some band as a worship leader or woship band?

The only name I'm familiar with is Matt Redman.

That their music is primarily focused on congregational worship.

Interesting. I started poking around and it seems that a good number of what people call contemporary Christian artists started or still serve as worship leaders.

Can I post a URL here?  I forget if that's ok or not.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_worship_music_artists

Anyway, I don't trust wikipedia to have a inclusive or even a correct list.

Maybe he's too "popular" but Chris Tomlin is one of my favorites.

DaveW

It is a good list but FAR from inclusive.  NONE of the people I listed above are on their list.

Kent Henry's good!  Right now most of the songs I'm picking for our team are from Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe, New Life Worship and Gateway Worship.  I tend to look more at the themes expressed in the lyrics than at the worship leaders themselves, but the ones I listed tend to consistently put out strong songs.
