Good news, Star Wars VII is planned for 2015, as part of a new trilogy.
More good news, George Lucas apparently won't be involved.

DaveW

So many have tried to talk Lucas into completing the final trilogy. He either refused or said there never was a plan to make episodes 7 8 and 9. Of course when 4 came out in 1977 he said he had screen plays for all 9 movies.

Of course Allen Dean Foster [Startrek log 1, 2, etc and 'Alien' series] who ghost wrote "4 - A New Hope" had his own set of stories in case 4 was a flop and he had the chance to buy up the franchise. "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" would have been his next movie. (the only one of his stories published)

I would LOVE to see Disney get Spielberg to do the New Jedi Order series.   It could easily be condensed to a trilogy.

Perhpas Harison Ford will be in it he's interested apparently  ::clappingoverhead::

If they do decide to produce the New Jedi Order series there will be a place for Harrison, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Han and Leah are married and have 3 kids - all Jedis.  Luke has started up a training acadamy for padawans. He married a dark Jedi apprentice of Palpatine and they have a young son. The galaxy is being invaded by a very bizzare anti machine race that are invisible in the force called the Yuuzhan Vong.

I hope they don't do another Anakin skywalker, kids talking  on the empire, becomes more like a spoof kids film.

But since Disney have taken over thats a possibility.  ::crackup::

Star Wars I was a relatively low-budget, cartoon-background children's toy commercial.  Disney, in spite of specializing in Children's movies, is competent.  George Lucas is incompetent.

Another objection I had with making Anakin the hero, other than the silliness of a child taking on the Empire, is that he becomes the villein.  I don't think its appropriate to get people to root for someone who ultimately is evil.    Obi Wan Kenobi should have been the hero of the prequel, instead of being the boy's sidekick.

I think though, one roots for good acts, rather than question the persons actions not yet done.

Personally though I thought vader would be much more reckless as a young adult, rather than go from hero to zero, in a quick space of time. I guess their trying to show that the dark side engulfs and swallows up all the good the person had in a short time.

I love star wars...saw the movies, read the books, but I am hesitant to celebrate the new trilogy.  I do not think Disney is competant to produce the films, and Lucas is staying on as a "creative consultant."  I will probably watch the first one out of curiousity, but I am do not want ot get my hopes up.

That being said, if it is good, I will be man enough to admit I was wrong.

RoninJedi

I'm afraid to get my hopes up about this one.  J.J. Abrams (Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness) has signed on to direct, and is apparently taking it very seriously.  To the point that the 2015 release date was because of him.  He didn't think they could put out a quality product before that time.  Still, it's a bitter-sweet feeling to me because:

I'm a huge Star Wars fan.  I know by reputation, we dislike Star Trek, but that's not always true.  I like The Next Generation, Wrath of Khan and First Contact.  I think Abrams did a great job with Star Trek, but it still just doesn't sit right to me.  Star Wars and Star Trek just don't mix.

To me, it's like putting a 350 engine into a Ford pickup.  A great motor and a great truck, but you just don't put them together.

Am I alone on this?

FireSword

They might have a differnent feel, but both movies are sci fi and in space, which means the director has had experience with scifi and most probably a science fiction fan, which will help make the star wars movie make sense from a story view.
Disney though are a kids company and so might cater to the younger audience.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of.  However, I was afraid of the same thing when Disney did "The Muppets" a couple years ago.  We actually just watched that for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was pleasantly surprised.  I just knew they were going to target the kids and alienate the parents, but they didn't.  I was amazed at how much material there was in that movie for me - the guy who watched the show as a kid and who now has kids of my own I'm watching the movie with.  So hat's off to Disney for that.  High recommend if you haven't seen it yet.

Honestly, I think this one could be a coin flip whether it's good or not.

Pros:  J.J. Abrams is a great director who's already had success resurrecting a beloved franchise.  Disney has put out some great family material - The Muppets standing out for me as a great example.

Cons:  Despite Episode II being good and Episode III being awesome (in my opinion), Episode I showed us that Star Wars can be done wrong.  Disney has put out some atrocious material - "The Lorax" standing out for me as a prime example.

For the next two years, I'll consider myself as approaching Episode VII with "extremely cautious enthusiasm".

FireSword

I have yet to see episode 3, what's wrong with me  ::crackup::

Thing is, that originally Lucas had kids in mind when directing the original and it turned out to be loved by adults, but maybe that was a fLuke.

RoninJedi

Very true, which is where the enthusiasm part comes from.

I won't spoil Episode III, but I think if you're a fan you should see it.  Story wise, it doesn't hold a candle to Empire Strikes Back (but I don't think any of them do).  However, I rank it as #2 in the franchise.  If you like the Prequels' style of action, it definitely delivers.  If you liked Episode II, you'll like Episode III.  For reference, I rate the series this way:

#1.) The Empire Strikes Back
#2.) Revenge of the Sith
#3.) Attack of the Clones
#4.) Return of the Jedi
#5.) A New Hope
#6.) The Phantom Menace

I guess you can take that for what it's worth.

Ronin,  Abrams admitted to using Star Wars as a guide in his Star Trek films and while the first one was acclaimed by critics, it was panned by trekkies.

If you want to know that a Disneyfied version of Star Wars will be, watch episode 1...  rofl

Have to say though, that the lightsaber battle was the best in Phantom menace. It combines theatrics, with emotions. The clone wars light saber battle was the worst, with limping old Yoda, springing into action like sonic the hedgehog and a wooden performance by the actors. If they were going to do a slow skillfull battle, then they should have kept yoda at a believable pace, using his wisdom to defeat the foe, instead of ultra speed.

k-pappy

I do agree that the lightsaber battle was really good in phantom...you could see the growth of Obi-wan from padawan to Jedi Knight.  That was probably the only bright spot.  I did not like two...the acting was rudimentary and seemed forced.

Three was a decent movie in its own right, but I think Anakins reason for turning to the dark side was weak.

I don't know...I'd have to reverse those last two.  Phantom Menace was poorly written, poorly acted and full of special effects for the sake of special effects.  But I'd rather watch that than a film about four walking, gibberish-spouting stuffed animals, especially since one of them is a gay cross-dressing thief.

*For those who know nothing about The Teletubbies, I envy you - Tinky Winky, the purple one, is widely accepted as gay because of his color and the antenna on his head.  He also often wears dresses and carries a purse.  Furthermore, he is always taking other people's stuff and putting it in his purse.  Hence, I would rather watch Phantom Menace.

Your first statement is true.  There are two boys and two girls.  Your second statement is false.  Tinky Winky is a boy.  The below is copied and pasted from wiki, you can read the full thing here.  I have put the important parts in bold, italics, and underlined them.  You're welcome.

And just for the record, I don't discriminate.  I have a black President who backs homosexuals, illegals, and both racial and religious minorities 100%.

Characters
The main characters. From left to right: Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po, and Tinky Winky.

Tinky Winky (played by Dave Thompson, Mark Heenehan, and Simon Shelton) is the first Teletubby. He is the largest and oldest of the Teletubbies, is covered in purple terrycloth, and has a triangular antenna on his head. He is notable for the red luggage he always carries. His character has caused controversy following allegations that his character's behaviour, bag and body colour have stereotypical homosexual qualities.

Dipsy (played by John Simmit) is the second Teletubby. He is green and is named "Dipsy" because his antenna resembles a dipstick. Dipsy is the most stubborn of the Teletubbies, and will sometimes refuse to go along with the other Teletubbies' group opinion. His face is also notably darker than the rest of the Teletubbies, and the creators have stated that he is Black.[7]

Laa-Laa (played by Nikky Smedley) is the third Teletubby. She is yellow, and has a curly antenna. She likes to sing and dance, and is often seen to look out for the other Teletubbies.

Po (played by Pui Fan Lee) is the fourth and last Teletubby. She is the smallest and youngest of the Teletubbies, is red, and has an antenna shaped like a stick used for blowing soap bubbles. She has been stated by the show's creators to be Cantonese,[7] and as such, she is bilingual, speaking both English and Cantonese.

Someone knows waaaaaay too much about teletubbies.  I just chose the most obnoxious thing I could think of to put at the bottom of the list...

Unfortunately, there was a time when my wife and I didn't know any better.  The only kid's show worse than the teletubbies is Yo Gabba Gabba.  If you've never seen it, please do yourself a favor.

DON'T!!!

It will be weird seeing all three of them as middle aged people. But glad to see the original actors in it! IMHO, the original IS the original!

The Society

Thank you Jean for directing us away from the Teletubbies.

As for the movies, I'd rather they did something more from the Old Republic rather than continuing with the other series.  Personally I'd like to see the Darth Bane triliogy on the big screen.

My fear is that being Disney it's going to end up being some corny thing or some cartoon with singing Jawas.

As for the movies:

Episode 3
Episode 6
Episode 4
Episode 2
Episode 5
Episode 1
