Water: The Drink for Long Life

Water is vital for good health and a long life.
Although you can live for days without food, your health survival depends on drinking water.

Each and every cell needs water to perform its essential functions.

Read on to learn how water factors into your health and longevity plans.

Benefits of a good "drinking habit"
Stay hydrated.
On these hot summer days, your body needs to replenish itself with water more than ever.

When you become dehydrated, you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions.

Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and give you a feeling of fatigue.

Regulate body temperature.
For work-out fans, drinking water reduces cardiovascular stress and improves performance.

And water reduces body temperature, making the exercise process safer and more effective.
Skin health.
Water hydrates and irrigates impurities from the skin, keeping it healthy and glowing.

Nutrient absorption.
Water transports essential nutrients, minerals, vitamins, proteins and sugars for assimilation.

Aids in weight loss.
If you haven't been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water-which equals extra unwanted pounds. Drink more water to teach your body that it no longer needs to store water. Water is also a natural appetite suppressant.

Flushes wastes and toxins.
Water helps us flush our system of the chemicals and toxins that we encounter every day in our modern world: car exhaust, dyed clothing, synthetic, formaldehyde-packed carpets - when you add up the toxins, it becomes dizzying!

Your body will process and eliminate some of these hordes of chemicals that enter it. The rest are stored in the liver, lungs, kidneys, fat cells, intestines, blood stream, and skin.

Without enough fluids to flush out your system, these accumulated toxins in your body will slow down your organ function, causing premature aging and resulting in chronic illness.

You should be drinking at least 60 ounces of water - about 8 glasses - a day.
To develop a good water-drinking habit, get two large, rigid thermos bottles with a 20-ounce capacity and fill them with water.
Take one along with you during the day to drink at work, and drink the other one at home.

Water: You Are What You Drink
Everything that goes down the drain from our lawns, our agricultural fields, or anywhere else in our environment inevitably ends up in our drinking water.

The president of the Environmental Working Group, Ken Cook, states that "approximately 45 million Americans in thousands of communities drink water that is polluted with fecal matter, parasites, disease-causing microbes, and pesticides at levels that violate Safe Drinking Water Act standards."

And a recent report showed that pharmaceutical drugs are showing up in tap water across the nation.

People taking pharmaceutical drugs pass them through their bodies and into the sewage plants, which remove the usual pollutants - but not drug chemicals from waster water, and some ends up in your drinking water.

Even a small amount of drug chemicals and pollutants taken in by your body continuously over a long period of time can trigger genetic changes, cause allergies, or even lead to cancer.

Of the many filtration processes that remove contaminants, the kinds that use activated charcoal is recognized by the EPA as the best available technology for filtering out volatile organic compound (VOCs) and other dangerous chemicals.

The most convenient and affordable way to have safe, healthy water for you and your family is to use an in-home water filtration system.
To learn about a high-performance filtration system that I recommend.

Health in a Bottle?

Bottled water has gained tremendous popularity, as word about the hazards of tap water is getting out.
However, many bottled waters were found to be simply processed water using distillation, reverse osmosis, de-ionization or filtration.

So, is bottled water safer than tap water? Tests have discovered that some bottled waters contained more chlorine by-products than surface and ground waters.

And the pesticides, herbicides, and pharmaceuticals that are found in household tap water are appearing in bottled water with alarming frequency.

The Natural Resources Defense Council report on the subject concluded that, "there is no assurance that bottled water is any safer than tap water."

Throw into that mix that plastic containers contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which leach into your water.

Skip the plastic bottles for storing.
Instead store in glass bottles, and for water-on-the-go, get a reusable thermos.

I hope you will take these tips and keep yourself well watered.
I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

I know I definitely do not drink enough water, but there is no way I could possibly drink 8 glasses a day, as some suggest for good health.  I don't drink much of anything, really, but need to tie a string around my finger to remember to stay hydrated.

I was like you for a long time, I didn't drink much water for some 50 years, NOW I regret that fact.

I would suggest to you that you got a book:
"You're not Sick.....You're Thirsty", By F. Batmangh

It will save you from many illness in years to come.

The major points taken in the opening post here are indeed correct; however, it is a myth that everyone must religiously drink 8-10 glasses of water ;(roughly, 64 ounces) per day.  The amount each person needs will depend on his/her metabolism and general health status.  The major caveat here is that one not allow him/herself to become dehydrated.  The other side of the caveat is that one can become over-hydrated as well, and neither is good for one's health.

A massage therapist once told me that many aches and pains are due to people not drinking plain ordinary water.  One glass of water can help eliminate muscle aches and possibly even headaches.  We may blame our problems on getting older, but it may really be something as simple as not staying hydrated.

Yes, moderation is the key word.

It is only logical, that a person in a more heated conditions needs more water than a person in a colder conditions.

NEVER use thirst as an indicator for the need for water.
Becasuse when thirst occurs, it is a sign that the body is already dehydrated.

Water is good for our life. If you drink more and more water, then it helps you to reduce your weight. Drinking water helps us to overcome problem of Di-hydration.

I was surprised when they aired this.  I drink a lot of water.

8 glasses of water a day 'an urban myth'

Water and a well-balanced diet 'do far more than water alone,' Australian researcher says

People have died of dehydration and from drinking too much water too quickly.

A good guide to tell if the body's finely tuned fluid balance is to check the colour of your urine. If it's very dark, you're on the dry side; if it's very light or translucent, then you need to drink a bit less water, said Dr. David Price, head of family medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont.

I think this is a myth. They forgot to factor in the water absorbed though food and the water that is retained by the body in the muscles etc.

No doubt water plays an very important role. It is one of the most important need of life.
With out we can not stay alive more than two days.we should drink water at least 8 to 10 glass per day.
it saves us from dehydration.
Clean the lungs.
Makes blood flow better.
We should be careful about taking water there should be no carelessness in it.

I often find that when I have a headache, if I drink a big glass of water and tough it out for half an hour or so, the headache will go away. Simply dehydration.

This is true. I think that many people hover on the edge of dehydration, which is the cause of many headaches. since I have learned to drink 1.5-2 litres of water per day, I rarely experience headaches anymore.

Yeah too much water can kill also. The electrolyte levels need to be kept within acceptable range and too much water upsets the balance, but salt can replenish electrolytes in the body.

This is very true. The military found that in our recent desert conflicts some solders were heeding the previous advice to drink water too well and suffering from water toxicity. I believe they are now pushing some version of sports drink.

k-pappy

The military is still pushing water, but sports drinks are available for free at the DFACs.

I drink a bottle with every meal and a bottle between meals, plus a bottle when I work out.  That keeps me pretty balanced.  I try to eat right, so I don't do the sport drinks as they are mostly sugar water.

Quote from Wikipedia:

"Water intoxication, also known as water poisoning or dilutional hyponatremia, is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside safe limits by over-hydration.

Under normal circumstances, accidentally consuming too much water is exceptionally rare. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests in which individuals attempt to consume large amounts of water, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet huge amounts of fluid are still consumed.[1] Moreover, water cure, a method of torture in which the victim is forced to consume excessive amounts of water, can cause water intoxication.

Water, just like any other substance, can be considered a poison when over-consumed in a specific period of time. Water intoxication mostly occurs when water is being consumed in a high quantity without giving the body the proper nutrients it needs to be healthy."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

As you can see, Wikipedia says that over hydration is rare. It says that if your body's electrolytes are low and you drink a very large amount of plain water than it can be a problem. But I think that most people probably drink between 64-96 oz which is a 32 oz sports bottle filled 2-3 times. So I don't think over hydration should be a worry in these cases. I drink 2-3 32 oz bottles a day and I add a little apple juice and a pinch of salt for added electrolytes. I agree that keeping hydrated and drinking a good amount everyday is important.

In my younger  days I did  not  drink water.

And my face showed it !
I drank  pop, soda..........

After getting married, I seen my husband drinking water, so I tried it
the face  cleared up !

And now my husband distills our  water, and that sure is better !
He buys the  minerals to put back into the water.   And he also leaves some of the water as is, and I use that for  making coffee.
I do not have to clean the pot out as often, when not having the minerals in it...........

We use galleon glass jugs.   We have gotten from buying apple cider !

Maka

I've been severely dehydrated twice and it's an awful feeling. I drink coconut water now before or after I run. It works great!!

Water is most essential and beneficial element for human being; as it brings several health benefits; such as follows;
1. Water play an essential role in dealing with dehydration problems.
2. Helpful in weight loss.
3. Helps in digestion and clean the immune system.
4. Maintain a better skin care.

Shizo211

Cool water also helps you sleep or wake up in the morning.

Hopegrace

I don't drink near enough water a day but I am trying to do better on this.

deenamathew

It's that important. Depending on our environment, we can live only a few days without water - maybe a week. We can live much longer without food. For most of us, we should prioritize the consumption of water far more than we currently do.
