I tried quitting drinking soda once for about a month, then got back to drinking it again. How does a person quit forever? I'm serious this time. I'm a diabetic, and have to get my life in order. This is one thing I need to stop.

The best way I have found for not eating or drinking unhealthy stuff is not buying it in the first place and not having it in the house. If its there its hard to resist.  Drink lots of water, dilute fruit juices with water, or decaff tea of coffee is OK.

I am almost one year soda free. Initially, I drank a lot of tea and lemonade - sugar free, I am also a diabetic - but now, 3/4's of the time I drink water. I put quite a bit of lemon in my water - which is very good for you too!

It's very difficult to quit pop - you might cut out one soda a day for a week, then two sodas a day the next, etc., until you get off soda completely.

You will not regret giving it up! Best wishes as you make the change.

I am also diabetic.   I rarely drink a soda anymore.   If you keep sweets out of your diet in general you'll find that you don't crave the sodas like you once did as they'll begin to taste putrid to you.

Meds or insulin don't make it acceptable to consume sweets, but many think so.   Sweets are your enemy, and even when you drink sodas with artificial sweeteners your body has to break them down - which is harder than real sugar, by the way - and it slows your metabolism.

Even i had tried to quit drinking soda but could not able to do. I had come across this information through online thought to share this.

Why would anyone want to drink "soda?"

I drink pop and  bake with soda.

chosenone,

As a diabetic you need to be careful of fruitjuice, even if diluted.

Fruitjuice is very high in sugar.

OldDad,

As the daughter of a dentist I do not advise lemon in water. Eventually the acid will wear the enamel on your teeth.

I am not speaking of the occasional lemon that restaurants put in the water to mask the chemicals they have, but you mentioned you put a lot of it.

Jesus Freak,

If you truly want to quit but find it too impossible because of the cravings try switching, initially to a soda you do not like....

Example, if you like Pepsie, only drink Coke...

If you like both, switch to gingerale.

Make sure all is sugar free, and if you are dribking colas, get the caffein free/sugar free ones.... They will help you tremendously to stop.
