When people see that a business is owned by a christian they expect that they sell stuff that is christ centered. That is like a business that owned by a woman can only sell woman like stuff.

Well, my wife and I started a business a while back and we want to try and run it based on biblical principals. We have our own clothing line so we are not really selling Christian items; however, our business model is biblically based. It is work in progress though. For example, we want to find Christian based companies to host and maintain our website. We did not know much about that kind of stuff but we are learning. We give 10% of monthly sales to family life to help families. We just started so we are anxious to do this. Also, we keep God at the center.

A business that sell wheat, or rocks or taxi service, is selling a Christian product or service if they are Christian and running an honorable business.

I find that I often (not always) avoid people that advertise they are Christian doing business.  I may be right or wrong, but simply doing good business is being a good steward.  We are supposed to be known as Christian by how we live our lives, not how we advertise.

A Christian business is any business that is based on biblical principals whether or not they sell products that are actually religious in nature.  I am currently looking to start a Christian business networking group in my community to allow for Christian business owners to support one another in growing their businesses.

Do you still need a Christian website? I am a christian and I am in the search engine marketing business. I have created and maintained my church website at [link removed]

I am often suspicious when I see a company represent itself as "Christian."

If I need a mechanic to fix my car, I don't care what his religion is.  I just want my car fixed.  If someone tells me "I'm the Christian mechanic," I start wondering why he needs that enhancement.  Is it because he's less competent than the Hindu mechanic down the street?  Just fix my car!

No not at all...you must have a reason as to why u asked this question...
Is  it perhaps because you would like to start up and own your own income?
And being a christian, you feel you have to sell Christian goods?
I am employed by a Christian family and we sell furniture...it's great to be able to share the news and views from our christian perspective..but not to all we have to respect everyone that walks in the door.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity to give an imput.

Faith Websites

I think ministry is available in whatever you put your hand to. I also suggest and agree that we keep God first. In my line of work, I deal with people who are and are not Christians. I run my business as faith-based. I do not take clients that would do websites of questionable natures. I do not design or work on websites unless I can make a difference. I know that I need to stand before the Lord someday and that makes all the difference to me.

There's no christian stuff. All things could be good or bad depending on your faith attitude. (see Rom 14:14)

digitalark

I agree with the sentiment that it is not selling Christian products it is how you and your business engages with the customers, etc.

I run a web design, hosting and marketing business.  I do my best to support and help them anyway I can by taking an active interest in wanting to see them achieve the objectives for their business, organisation, charity, etc.  It does allow me over time to introduce the Lord.

One of the subtle ways I make a statement of faith is by making it clear that there are discounts for Christrian and charitable purposes.

When people see that a business is owned by a christian they expect that they sell stuff that is christ centered.
And how exactly do you define that?

Would you consider a place like Book22 . com to be selling "christian" stuff? They are christian owned.

BTW - book 22 in the bible is the Song of Solomon.

This is the first thing our customers see when they walk in the door of our business -

We sell used money.  ::smile::

Inspired Divinely

Not necessarily. I just started my own clothing brand, InspiredDivinely, and most of my designs are Christian based and refer to Biblical passages, but I have some that are secular. In secular I mean it's something the general urban culture is familiar with. This is a great way for evangelism as well, non-Christians who like the design may become interested and want to check out more clothing from InspiredDIvinely. Then they can see its based on the Faith. Check it on Facebook, God Bless!

What does Jesus say?

What does that have to do with running a business?

Did the first Christians sell Christian stuff? Wasn't Paul a tent maker? And Jesus a carpenter?

So, I don't think that Christians necessarily have to sell Christian stuff.  If we have a serving heart, and if the items are reflective of God's goodness and grace, does it not matter if the items are not specifically Christian stuff?

acegem

Not necessarily!

In my case, I run a Web Design, SEO, Link Building and Article Writing company which I can't consider as christian stuffs but I can use these services to bring back the glory to God for this business that He has entrusted me. I can give special rates to churches who want to have their websites online, I use blogging to win souls and make disciples, I encourage other churchmates, fellow church-workers to blog/write, etc...

Let this be our guide:  "Whatever we do (or indeed sell ) do it as unto the LORD." Col 3:17
So  "stuff" we are selling does not have to be labelled as "Christian"but should honor the LORD

I'd say no as long as they practice Christian values as they apply to their specific industry.

It's really hard to have a specifically Christian product in any service industry, for example a Christian plumber has no way to repair pipes differently than a Jewish plumber (assuming they're both doing things correctly) but can distinguish himself from his peers by being polite and host with clients, setting fair prices, generally treating people with respect, and not working on Christian holidays.

This new business I found after googling [link removed] seems like a rare service that has an inherently Christian product. It also works the other way, being that it is technically possible for a retail business to sell Eucharists or other Christian items and not formally practice Christianity or follow Christ's teachings. I've also come across Christians who were otherwise by the book pious but sold adult films and magazines at their store.

Hello. Thank you for reading.

I started a services practice. A lot of what I do is helping people reach the right outcome when they are being treated badly by some person at some company who does not have the time of day.

I ask for almost nothing for what I do because the people I have been helping are small businesses themselves or vulnerable individuals and they are troubled for months. Over this time any other professional advisor would charge so much it would ruin the people needing help.

At the moment my bank account is overdrawn and I have no amount of work which is going to bring me what I need.

The effect on me is really unhealthy. And meanwhile I am helping people reach an outcome which is right. Its hard and difficult and tiring with these two aspects and an overdrawn bank account.

Thank you.

Do you advertise yourself as a good Christian buisness? If so, don't do that.. Anyone who has a need to advertise themselves as a good Christian usually leaves a bad taste in others... It's only buisness - nothing personal.

Best to drop subtle seeds and let your buisness speak for itself.

Phil123

Hello and thank you for your reply.

There is no mention of religion. I hardly do any advertising. I will need to and will by putting a few low cost but high quality flyers through the doors of some big houses where perhaps there are business owners.

Thank you again for replying.

I don't know what that may have to do with running a Christian (based) business..  but i know that it has something to do with what Christ said.

What does Jesus say?
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me.  Matthew 19:21

Jesus said unto me, If thou wilt be perfect, go {and} sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come {and } follow me.

And I said unto Jesus, I do.   I then said, 'But help, for I sink!'

He replied, 'Oh you, of little faith.  Why did you doubt?'

And so then I looked up to heaven and gave Praise to The Father who sent such a Wonderful ...

But around the corner lay the trappers who were setting their snares for me.  And so I made my trip towards Jericho.

As I made my way on the path, there was a man, half beaten and half dead.  I thought to myself, "If I touch him I may become unclean seeing that he might be dead.  And if I try to help him, there might be murderers lying in ambush... Besides, he looks to be a pagan and I am not allowed to associate with pagans."  And as I waited to see what I should do, I looked to the fig tree.  The leaves were tender and the season was right.  The figs were soon to be.  Another came by, a certain Samaritan, bandaged him, put him on his mule and walked away.   Martha came walking down the path shortly and Mary, her sister, also.  Mary asked, 'Have you seen where my Lord has gone?  For I have been looking for Him and I don't know where He may be."  Martha replied, 'Oh Mary, Mary.  You are mindful of many things but the day awaits so let us choose the better part.'

As they walked towards their destination, Jesus appeared to them and they realized that He was always near.

As evening approached, a marriage feast was being held.   Many people were invited; however, not all showed up.  Regardless, the table was set, the wine was mixed the food was prepared.  The people gathered and began to celebrate!  It was a feast!  A newly wed couple was going to have a baby soon....  A new life being brought into the world which God created to be inhabited.  And the father was anxious to teach his child in the admonition of God, his very own God.  The mother was anxious to wake early and have the early things prepared.  After all, her children were going to call her blessed.

As the party continued and the wine began to run low, Jesus realizing this also, He called some of His brothers, those who did the will of His Father in Heaven.  He told them to fill the jug with water.  The water turned into wine, of course, and the conversation was turned to speaking of Elijah and how he filled the trenches with water and how God did 'lick' up the water with His Holy Fire.

As the elders were soon beginning to enjoy the festivities of the party, the wedding feast, the children did go into their houses and rooms to ponder and think of The Lord in their lying down.

Another day which uttereth speech.  And Wisdom was known by her children.

What riches of store rooms filled with all good things???  The children did have a sweet sleep.

Life doesn't always have to be MANDATORILY rough.  It can be Joyful also.

To be To be...  That is the question...

Please, for the sakes' of your own selves, don't believe every foul lying word someone speaks.   If something is going to cause you to live worse than you are now, don't accept it.  And if something is going to cause you to do something worse than you are doing now, don't accept it.  Stay on the good path that The Lord has provided for you.

It is not good to accuse.  Nor is it good to plot.  It is much wiser and better to not have any associations with such persons.   You do remember the Huge Insurance Fraud Fiasco, don't you?
