In some circles, there's a popular form of 'inner healing' which involves mentally going back to the traumatic events in your life and visualising them, but this time seeing Jesus present in them.  Personally, I've never been 100% sure about this, as I think it could throw up even further confusion. For example, if a person had been abused, it wouldn't be emotionally healthy
to revisit that experience and 'see' Jesus as being present....surely?
My gut feeling, based on my own experience of having been prayed for over the years, is that the most healthy form of inner healing is a type which prompts you to look at the incredibly beauty and glory of Jesus...looking forward and not back.  That glimpse has the ability to kickstart emotional healing (I think, anyway!)

However, what do others think? Is there a Biblical precedent for going over old memories?  Does anyone have any experience of this?

Yes and no. Experience wise.

I believe you are correct.

Much of my older years has been revisiting all the bad things of the past of things I did as well as done to me.
Though never visualizing Jesus in them.

It is painful at times and I think basically stupid cause you can change nothing, and you never will get an answer as to why these things had to happen.

I try to follow the advise of a minister who often would say. "Get over it". It is far more uplifting to look up to God then to look back on sadness.
