Before I do the full explanation please pray for Marlene who is now with very bad
pneumonia... ( the deadly kind, from Covid) and her husband was just called to the hospital ... an emergency call.

A tale of Covid.

About 4 weeks ago our dear friend and neighbor,73 year old Marlene was not feeling well. She said she felt flueish. Had a fever, but it came down with Tylenol... But after a week or so she called her doctor and instead of prescribing something for her he had her get a covid test.

That was on a Wednesday.

The next day , Thursday... The Health Department called and told her to get a 2nd test on Saturday, and he husband was also.

Saturday morning, 11 AM they got their tests and by the time she was home
she could not breath and could barely walk....so an ambulance was called.

And 3 weeks in the hospital got rid of the covid but not before she was determined to have COPD.

Now , she is in her 4thweek in the hospital and last night the husband was called at 4AM... she was being rushed to another hospital. Her lung had collapsed.

Today, late afternoon the husband called us late afternoon. She not only has a collapsed lung but she also has a deadly pneumonia.

And now... 8:45 PM another neighbor called us and told us the hospital called Marlene's husband to get to the hospital right away. He was unable to drive himself so the neighbor who called us said his wife was driving Marlene's husband to see her.

Just wanted you all to know the reason behind the prayer request.

3 Resurrections

Praying for Marlene and her husband...

It sounds as if you have a very strong neighborhood network.  That can be a real blessing at a time like this.

Rella, I'm praying for Marlene and her husband. Thank you for sharing.

Update on Marlene.

When Bill got to the hospital last evening it was to discuss some treatment options. One option would have required
them doing something that might cause a broken rib(s)? Bill siad no. She is in enough pain so they opted for another treatment.

We were told something about an acid something or other. ( acid-ash diet a special diet prescribed to increase the acidity of the urine so that alkaline salts will remain in solution. The diet may be given to aid in the elimination of fluid in certain kinds of edema, in the treatment of some types of urinary tract infection, and to inhibit the formation of alkaline urinary calculi. Meat, fish, eggs, and cereals are emphasized, with little fruit and vegetables and no milk or cheese.
alkali-ash diet a therapeutic diet prescribed to increase the alkalinity of the urine and dissolve uric acid and cystine urinary calculi. This type of diet changes the urinary pH so that certain salts are kept in solution and excreted in the urine. Emphasis is placed on fruits, vegetables, and milk. Meat, eggs, bread, and cereals are restricted.)

And today we learned that she is now on dialysis....

This third hand news as Bill is still at the hospital with neighbors wife driving him and the neighbor is the one filling us in.

Thank you all for the prayers you have extended .... please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she is still critical.

OH.... We also were told this AM, buy the neighbors wife who was with Bill. Marlene could not or would eat nothing but milk and pudding or jello when in the hospital from he double hockey sticks. The new hospital informed Bill that Marlene had food in her lungs...... ::pondering:: which I never thought possible.

Were they discussing chest compressions? CPR? Elderly people usually end up with fractured ribs when given chest compressions.

Sounds like she's aspirating.

Praying here.

No, not chest compressions.

We learned awhile ago that the  sac her lungs has air trapped and this is  disabling the lungs from expanding.

Evidently they were discussing ways to get rid of that air.

So far that is all we have been specifically told.

Oh yes, quite possible.  I have done that a few times myself.  It happens when you are swallowing and try to breathe in at the same time.  Some of the food goes down the trachea into the lungs instead of the esophagus. That in itself can cause pneumonia. The lungs collect more fluid to help expel the foreign material.

Marlene died last night.

That is sad.  Sounds like some of the advice/treatment she got was also not the best.

She was a believer, but not quite to the extent those here are.

A horrible life that started with abuse from her parents, a bad marriage of physical abuse, the birth of a handicapped child 42 years ago ( in a home) , and lifes lumps and bumps with a brother who committed suicide this year.

She fell away from God for a while after the problems back  after the birth of the child and tool he time to come back....

She had been a Catholic but she has not attended for many many years.... possibly decades.
