Me too.

It takes as much or more to live comfortably in retirement than it does before retirement. Same bills, but usually bigger family - more birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, larger dinners at family gatherings, things still break and need to be repaired or bought again...

I'm not quite sure who came up with the concept of living on much less during retirement years - unless you move in with family and live off them?

My parents are doing alright but stopped doing birthdays for the adults.  Grandkids get cut off at 18.  I don't think it takes as much to live as well in retirement as long as you were smart about getting the debt taken care of prior to retirement.

Those that just have  social security are going to be screwed with all of the spending in the last few years.  With that and the lockdowns inflation is a problem.  Any COLA isn't going to cover the loss of buying power those funds without the increase had just a few years ago.

More power to them, but I haven't gotten to that spot, yet. Gifts here, gifts there, gifts everywhere! I still buy for my parents who are in their 80s. Last Christmas, I gave them a towel warmer for their bathroom, and this year, I'm giving them this HEPA air cleaner. Hopefully, it will give them a little extra peace of mind about family coming and going over there during COVID and flu season. Plus, it may help with their allergies a bit.



Then, a few little goodies in their Christmas stockings. Just cause you're older doesn't mean you don't like to have fun getting gifts! (IMO) A couple of years ago, I gave them a gift card to their favorite steak restaurant along with a puzzle made from a map of their hometown, which they loved. Besides, I never know when it will be my last Christmas with them. They always made Christmas special for me as a kid, so I like to do for them.

My dad's 84th birthday is about three weeks away. I ordered a pullover for him that has his Scottish clan name and logo on the front. Looks cozy and comfortable. Hope it gets here in time!

Our family is large, especially if you start looking at aunts/uncles and cousins.  We aren't the Dugger's but more people than normal.
