Ephesians 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

I would be interested in anyone's understanding of what is meant by "sealed with the promised Holy Spirit".

Jaime

To my understanding it is the mark of God vs the mark of the beast.

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.
(Eph 1:13-14)

I believe that the gift (promise) of the Holy Spirit is the forgiveness of sins, and that is the sealing referred to in this passage.

I tend to agree with you.  Moreover, I believe the sealing here is a description of regeneration, i.e., being born again; in which case, it shows that the sealing, the regeneration, comes following hearing the gospel and believing, in contrast to the Calvinist/Reformed Theology teaching that regeneration must precede believing.
