Okay, you do live in Texas.  Temperature is heading lower which we all are happy to see that to be so.  But, truly we have almost no winter, except during Jan/Feb and then it is over.

Yes! A little podunk town but I love it here. Down the road from my daughter and her family. She had her second baby, a precious baby boy, six weeks ago, so I've been busy helping over there. Plus, busy at the house. The man next door is a trim carpenter for fancy homes in Dallas, and he's been putting in all kinds of gorgeous woodwork for me with the leftovers from a couple of his jobs. He's not charging for all the woodwork - just the labor. So nice of him! So far, he's wrapped the kitchen island and used the same gorgeous wood and trim to finish out the dining area. The neighbors are all very friendly here. Lots of homeschool families in the neighborhood, which I love. Oh! My little sister and her hubby are moving here! They just bought a home about 6 miles from here! So happy about it!

It was 77 today in Lubbock. Supposed to be 83 on Christmas Day.  Keep those Polar Vortices at bay please!

Has been frightfully cold since Thanksgiving... A little snow, but I am ready for it to be done.

We had our own Texas version of Mele Kalikimaka Christmas yesterday. It was warmer here than in my son-in-law's home town of Honolulu. From the Hawaiian relatives, tasty treats from Hawaii, my Native American brother-in-law dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts singing Mele Kalikimaka, my 3 year old granddaughter hula dancing  - all in this hot Texas weather, where there are no palm trees swaying, but dried up tumbleweeds blowing - we had a very Merry Christmas and I hope all of y'all did, too!

We have tons of Canada geese here in Lubbock for the winter. They are probably confused and might go back up north unless real winter shows up soon

Well, that's interesting. Just east of you, we're being taken over by turkey vultures. Looks like a bunch of turkeys standing around on top of my neighbors roof.

We get the Canada geese every year and then later the Sandhill cranes. The thousands of small playa lakes here on the Panhandle/South Plains and the grain fields is the draw apparently.

On our morning walks we see them flying from their roosting spots in V formations and "honking" overhead as they head out to forage,  then they repeat coming back to their roosting spots around the lakes just before sundown. Love it!

We have a lot of gray foxes in our neighborhood here in town and every once in a while around the playas, you will see an unlucky goose carcass.

Well, it looks like 1/3 of the country is going to be hit with this winter storm. Anyone else here living in the projected ice swath that's supposed to be devastating?
I'm doing what I can to prepare, but talk like this isn't helping me feel confident on my efforts!

My wife and I are trying to fly out of DFW Friday morning to Cancun for our oldest grand daughter's wedding. It will be cutting it close. Our plane takes off from DFW at 10:35 in the morning. On Saturday Lubbock will have 18 degree high and a 6 degree low. We have been blessed with a pretty warm winter so far. This storm looks like a doozy. Look out Rella!

Thanks, nothing like a destination wedding at the peak of the winter storm season.. Destination weddings are foreign concepts for me and Ms Jaime. And EXPENSIVE! 🥹 our wedding almost 53 years ago was not an event to impact the entire social world driven by the  "boundaries" dreamed of in the social media universe. No meal was provided by the parents. My grandmother made little round wedding mints we served with salted peanuts on a little saucer. Washed down by the official west Texas Church of Christ wedding reception punch (ginger ale mixed with lime or orange sherbert.

Get your bottled water, tp, and milk 

It's been below freezing for days here already.  Gonna dip below zero overnight the next few days. Wind chill on top of that.

I am headed to the store for goodies and food early afternoon. It has been above freezing all night but there are icy spots on the roads.

Yesterday they said it should miss us. Today it looks like the entire western part of the state in under a watch.

You be safe Jaime.... you are the third person I know headed south... One due back Sat night from the Caribbean, another leaving Monday for Aruba, and now you.

Maybe this will keep the ICE protests at bay around the country! 

Jaime, you're describing the exact pattern of church of Christ weddings back in the day! Cake, mints, nuts, and punch was it for the reception, and no dinner was served. 
When my youngest daughter married, she and her fiancé were professionals and in their 30s, so they insisted on paying for their own wedding. Fanciest wedding I've ever attended. She even had two wedding dresses - one for the ceremony and one for the reception. Beautiful evening and I dearly love the both of them and the two precious grandbabies they've given me.

People are in a frenzy here, saying we'll lose power, water, etc, for weeks, like they did in 2021. I have no idea if this storm is going to be as bad as they're saying or not, but I'm taking some precautions -
Starting tomorrow morning, I'm going to draw up a lot of water. Fill bathtubs and fill four, 5 gallon water jugs, plus various other containers.
I bought a case each of pocket hand warmers, foot warmers, and lap warmers. Bought hot water bottles.
Bought more batteries for flashlights and indoor battery lantern.
This house has a backup battery attached to the exterior that will give us about 2-3 days of power if/when we lose power. If these outlandish predictions are true, that 2-3 days of power won't be enough but will help.

I've already talked to my dog and told her I plan on wearing her around the house in a baby sling so her body heat can help keep me warm. Hopefully, she'll be ok with that.

Oh, and I'm making some of those Crisco clay pot warmers.

Arizona has been unseasonably warm so far.  Haven't had a day in 2026 yet that hit freezing.  Mid-70s most days.

It's kinda great here tbh, but I worry about what the temps are going to be in summer.

Already around 0 degrees here.  Just took my dog out. 

We aare at 23 f right now headed to a nightime low of -3.

Tomorrow will be a heat wave for we shall zoom to 14f

We start with the snow tomorrow night and go into Monday with it still snowing... the bulk will be on Sunday and guessing we may get 8 to 12" where from the city north possibly 14"

The temp on Monday will be the low that may hit -10f.

I hope Jaime gets off this morning as planned... but will he be able to return?? Inquiring minds want to know. 

Rella, we are waiting in the DFW airport waiting to board our final  leg to Cancun. If we get off the ground at 10:30 am we'll be good. On the trip back to Lubbock on Tuesday we go through Phoenix.

However, having a pilot son-in-law who has DFW as his home base, I can attest to the fact that during times of bad weather, DFW can be a huge mess with delays just because of other connecting airports already negatively affected by the inclement weather and delaying or canceling flights. This ice storm is not supposed to end until Sunday afternoon, so that's 48 hours of freezing rain. It will take a few days to get that much ice off the roads. We are going to get a lot of snow and only if warmer weather come up our way will we see ice. Either way I am hunkered down until Tuesday at least.

We made it through the madness it was 85 today and humid like New Orleans. Wearing shorts and a tee shirt to dinner tonight. Awesome resort - Sandos Caracol.

We woke up to 75 degrees in a jungle. Sat on the balconey and saw several coatimundi (raccoon like animals) and bats flying around. They have some monkeys and parrots.

I had quite a bit of trouble with the passport reader at the Cancun airport. Kinda worried about getting out on tuesday.
