Quote from: pppp on Fri Sep 18, 2026 - 10:35:06If God had made the earth in a billion years,
the Bible would have mentioned this.
What is the Hebrew word for billion?

Quote from: pppp on Fri Sep 18, 2026 - 10:35:06It's man who usually interprets it wrongly.
Moreover if God wanted evolution to exist,
why would He take billions of years?
God could make new species along with the old at the same time.
God is eternal & all powerful,
why would He make the earth as a small tiny, hot & dense point.
He could just make the earth as it is made,
which acc., to the Bible was just six days.
And this seems accurate.
I believe that God created the natural law through which the universe as we know it today was produced.

Quote from: pppp on Fri Sep 18, 2026 - 10:35:06The problem is that the Bible is accurately teaching followers how the earth was made,
No, the Bible does not teach How God made the earth.  The Bible teaches that God made it.  He left it to us to determine how He did it.

Quote from: pppp on Fri Sep 18, 2026 - 10:35:06its the wrong interpretation of man that is causing confusion, because they want to justify their scientific theories.
There's no harm if Science supports Scripture,
but wrongly interpreting Scripture just to fit it with Science is just causing confusion.
The Bible is not the only revelation that God gave us.  It is the only special, written revelation, but God declares that the unwritten revelation is for us as well (Psalms 8, 18, 19; Romans 1).

There are also some scientists who believe in Christianity & have come out with scientific theories where some points seem relevant.

Some of the Christian scientists reject evolution of different animal species & instead believe that God directly created different species.
And these scientists say God created life miraculously rather than a gradual descent from common ancestors.

This seems quite reasonable considering that some scientific theories can't provide a satisfactory proof or provide no proof proof at all for some species they claim to have descended from their ancestors.

Another set of Christian scientists claim that God formed the earth but made the earth with His laws,
allowing nature to grow without His intervening.
This too seems reasonable to some extent.

pppp

God made the earth & the Heavens in six days.
And there is a true account which happened 59 years ago.
This was a conflict which involved the children of Abraham with heathen,
though the odds were stacked against the little country,
but the conflict lasted for six days,
& God's might, supreme power & blessing was seen in the complete victory of Abraham's offspring (by blood).

Note the conflict lasted for six days,
& Almighty God made the earth & the Heavens in just six days.
The victory in six days has Biblical Significance.
This in itself shows that the earth was made in six days & not in billions of years.
And God's Sovereign Hand was seen in the miraculous victory.

Thanks for your reply 4WD,
I'm sorry by mistake I wrote .......God made the earth & the Heavens in six days.
I meant, God made the earth & the Heavens & the sun, moon, stars & all the living things which included both the plants & animals of both the land & the sea, in six days.

Genesis 1
....31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Of course.

Just found something interesting, to share with everyone.
Acc., to science the universe was probably formed in about 13.8 billion years.
And there's another point of view, which states that the early sun emitted only about 70 percent to 75 per cent of its current energy.
Which means that about 4 billion years ago, the Sun was roughly 30 per cent dimmer than it is in today's times.

But there's a contradiction to this acc., to Geology.
Physics states that a 30 per cent dimmer sun should have turned the earth into a permanent frozen ball of snow.
However, rock & mineral records prove that liquid oceans existed.

Acc., to one scientific theory the universe is 13.8 billion years old,
& the earth & the solar system was formed approx., 4.5 billion years ago.

Again the above theories, but do not match Biblical Scripture which clearly tells believers that God made the Heavens, the Earth & all its inhabitants, the sun, moon, stars & oceans in just six days,
which included a perfect sun shining over the earth & oceans which existed alongside the sun.

Genesis 1
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Another interesting thing I came across.
And that is Helium Diffusion.
People who were doing research measured how fast helium leaks out of transparent red or orange brown crystals in granite rocks.
They repeatedly stated that the retained helium levels indicate that the  crystals are thousands, instead of billions of years old because a lot of helium would have escaped if a lot of time had passed.

pppp

Something interesting again which I came across ....
Strata which is tightly Folded;
Acc., to the studies done by Christian geologists,
they claimed that the rock layers which are thosands of feet thick are bent into sharp curves without cracking thus implying that the sediment was still wet & soft when folded,
this is supporting the rapid deposition during Noah's Flood instead of the slow processes that took millions of years.

Hard to imagine geochemists being that ignorant.  Here's what they didn't know, or hoped you wouldn't know:

The vast majority of exploitable helium in gas deposits is the result of the radioactive decay of uranium and thorium in the Earth's crust, a process that spans geological timescales.

Rocks deform without cracking over a very long time.  But sometimes, they fold too fast, and crack anyway:

This wouldn't happen if they were soft when they folded.

But what I posted has been given by Scientists as well.
Basically there are many scientists who have different opinions
but
what I posted was given by Scientists who are Christians (& are also being supported by other scientists,)
& who are also finding similarities between Scientific theories regarding how the earth was formed & in how many years & the fact that God made the earth & heavens in six days.
It's interesting, but many people choose to believe in The Word of God.

The fact that helium is being continuously generated in the Earth is not an opinion.   It's a demonstrated fact.   That's why the Earth continues to shed helium after billions of years.

Which is entirely consistent with the word of God.   Not necessarily with the interpretations of His word, held by some people.

But that's a different thing entirely.

The Christian scientists are not saying that helium is not being generated.

These scientists are talking about the crystals in the granite rocks, being thousands of years old instead of billions of years.

Which is what we observe.  Consistent with billions, not thousands of years.

QuoteThese scientists are talking about the crystals in the granite rocks, being thousands of years old instead of billions of years.

The evidence is not consistent with such short periods of time.   Granite can only form after millions of years of cooling.   You see, the large crystals in granite require that length of time to form.   When magma that would ordinarily form granite in the Earth's crust is erupted above the crust, it solidifies in a much shorter time, forming rhyolite, a fine-grained rock with the same minerals and crystals as granite, only the minerals are much smaller.   The granite countertops you see are very, very old.

Science is a very interesting subject.
And science says that the universe is 13.8 billion years old
& the earth & the solar system was formed approx., 4.5 billion years ago.

But there are a few groups of Christian Scientists,
who are also being supported by other scientists
& who are also finding similarities between Scientific theories regarding how the earth was formed & in how many years & the fact that God made the earth & heavens in six days.

And its they who are giving these explanations.
And many other Christian scientists are supporting these theories.
And this topic is interesting because these scientists are trying to find similarities between the The Word of God & His creation which can also be explained by Science.

Science has laws, theories, formulae & many explanations regarding many aspects & they are convincing,
but Science cannot convince on every topic.

And with due respects to science,
but it cannot override The Word of God & the creation of the earth & the universe by God.

There are Biblical numbers which have significance.
They carry symbolic & spiritual meaning.
When Scripture says that the Earth was made in six days...it meant six days.
Because God will never keep His believers in confusion.
If he had meant that 1 day = a billion years ,
God would have said so.
Just like there are other Biblical numbers.
Like Jonah stayed in the belly of the whale for three days
& after three days Christ was resurrected.

The Holy Trinity is made of (3)...The Father, Son & the Holy Spirit,
Just like Christ had 12 Apostles,
& Jacob, God's chosen, later named Israel, has 12 sons.
Just like the number 40,
The Israelites roamed in the desert for 40 years,
& Satan tried to tempt Blessed Christ after He had fasted for 40 days & 40 nights. And Satan lost.

Matthew 4:1-11
New King James Version
Satan Tempts Jesus
4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, ......

Coming to the conclusion that God made the earth in six days & not as some scientists try to interpret it as in billions of years.
God has given clear cut instructions in the Holy Bible.
Just like some things are symbolic & some are actual.
But even for that there are clear cut instructions.

After all, the Word of God,
is true, given by God Himself.
Just like the 10 Commandments were given by God to Moses.
And each Commandment is mentioned clearly.
Sometimes what seems simple actually has a deeper meaning.

Which comes to the conclusion again that God made the earth in six days only.
But some scientists want that their theories should match The Holy Bible,
so they keep misinterpreting certain things.
Moreover, every scientist may not be correct.
And to prove this, I'll go a little back into a different era.

There was a certain scientist,
who definitely was brilliant,
& every law he made was accepted, without any resistance or hesitation.
Such was the level of his brilliance.
Then he made a law, which again was accepted without asking.

Then came another scientist, who through experiments proved the earlier scientist's law incorrect.
In those days, it was the talk of their scientific circle,
& many scientists opposed this other scientist.
Yet, in the end, it was this other scientist's new law which was accepted.
So, science comes out with laws, theories, formulae, explanations,
but in the end,
these are made by human beings,
who are not perfect.
So some laws may be correct & some theories just assumptions.
Whereas the The Holy Bible, was written by a perfect God, with no imperfections,
Amen.

Just like some scientists claim that ancient reptiles perished millions of years ago,
yet, just approx., 1500 years ago massive prehistoric water reptiles were heard by the sounds they made & spotted by human beings.
God has given a free will, & its up to believers to decide whether they believe in The Word of God or some scientists.
Some believers want to prove through science about every miracle mentioned in the Bible?
Why?
Do some people need a proof for the miracles performed  by God?
And yet, science has tried to give explanations,
but could not explain everything.
This again shows two things.

Firstly, what miracles God can perform cannot be explained due to His supreme power,
Secondly, humanity, lacks the knowledge of God, but just tries to interpret Scripture acc., to their self made theories.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6

The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Matthew 4:4
 ::amen!::  ::amen!::  ::amen!::

The ironic part is they're starting with a BAD interpretation of Scripture.

They might have spent a little more time understanding Scripture before trying to make the science fit.

Thanks all, for the answers.
The Christian scientists who are finding similarities between Scientific theories regarding how the earth was formed & in how many years & the fact that God made the earth & heavens in six days,
& who are making  discoveries are trained people with a good knowledge of their subject.
And whatever discoveries they have made are a result of the processes of the earth itself.

There are many other scientists giving their respective theories which are assumtions as in many theories nothing has been proved.
But because science in itself uses complex laws & formulae,
so its considered an authority.

For example, science says dinos came first & were extinct before man came.
But Scripture says that whilst man was alive there was the leviathan,
which resembled a massive sea reptile.
Then acc., to science, man descended from apes.

Whereas it is clearly stated that God made animals first & then man.
So, Scripture is different from Scientific theories.
And why would God do something so ridiculous as making man descend from apes????
God is not absurd.

Another thing is that besides dinos, there are other sea animals which were supposed to have become extinct.
Yet, some people claim to have seen both massive marine reptiles & a species of massive fish.
So, sometimes science contradicts itself.

Then Science claims that birds descended from dinos,
but Christian Scripture says that birds came first then land animals.
Science & Christian Scripture do not match.
And ultimately it is God only who knows the truth about creation & this truth He has given through His Word,
Amen.

I would like to recommend the book, Faith and Science: A Primer for a Hypernatural World by Kenneth D. Keathley.

Keathleu opens his introduction to the book with the following:

Whenever we look up at the night sky, dive into the mysteries of the human body, or even play around with the coolest new tech gadget, we are reminded that we're living in a world that's full of wonders—our Father's world. The story of faith and science isn't a narrative about two worlds clashing. Rather it's a tale of discovering that the better we understand the cosmos, the more we realize the intricate way that God has crafted it. This little book is an invitation to explore that story, a story of divine wonder and human curiosity.

If you are interested in how close are science and the divine record, I think you will find Keathley' book intriguing and perhaps even enjoyable.

Thank you for the recommendation. I agree that the heavens declare God's glory (Psalm 19:1), and studying His creation can fill us with wonder.

I would be careful, though, about looking to the visible creation for the gospel of His love. Scripture warns us against being carried away by philosophy "and not after Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

The world we study is temporal; our hope is in God's promised new heaven and new earth, an incorruptible creation, not a repair of the old.

"For the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18).

The gospel must also be mixed with faithful mixing (2 Corinthians 4:18) in those who hear it (Hebrews 4:2).

That is why I look to Christ's living Word for the unseen meaning to which the things of this world can point.

Parable teach us how to walk by faith the unseen thing of Christ our husband hiding the understanding from the philosophies of this dying world

One of the messages in Keathley's book is that when you begin to know and understand just how finely tuned the universe and especially earth really is, it could only come about by a loving Supreme Being creating a place for human beings to exist. And not only that, but by any measure, the whole purpose of this creation is the human being.

pppp

Hi Garee, your reply is correct.
Yes, people should be careful that they do not get carried away by thories made by humans.
And people should rely on The Word of God.
Though Science gives valuable information,
but ultimately everyone who is a believer, must believe Scripture.
It is correct that people rely more on Science because it gives visible laws & theories,
whereas what is necessary for the believer is to trust God's divine plan for humanity.
When God made the earth, with all its inhabitants & the Heavens,
along with the universe,
God knew in advance that He would make man in His image,
& later Christ would come on the earth,
through man.
God knows his will & plans in advance,
& what He does is perfect.
So, believers must rely on The Word of God.

pppp

Thank you 4WD for your reply.
I'll definitely check up the book you recommended.

Just as a healthy discussion,
Basically I feel, that believers must rely more on The Word of God.
But I also really feel,

that people should become less skeptical than go on finding proof on the basis of science.
I have been reading that people want a proof for every miracle
that the Holy Bible tells & even for the present day miracles.
And people rely on what is seen ...that is science,

& because science in itself comes out with laws & complex theories,
so automatically it becomes an authority & convincing.
I also like science & find it very interesting but definitely it is not totally convincing because it has not been written by God.

But what people need is to accept The Word of God as it is,
instead of trying to fit it in with science laws.

Science has been able to give explanations to many other things but definitely it can't explain The Word of God.
What people need is to accept The Word of God as it is & not compare it with science nor compare science with The Word of God.

Whether there are scientists who support the version that the universe & the earth were created in billions of years or whether there are Christian scientists who are discovering new things,
but its up to the believers to choose which matches Scripture,
because any scientific theory that matches Scripture is more reliable.
I think this will be a reasonable approach.
