If you have not seen this movie, you need to.  It is a great movie to watch to remind you of the love and giving that characterize Christmas.

tidbit

I've seen it in bits and pieces.  Not sure I've sat down and watched it all in one sitting.

Mere Nick

Maybe that's your problem.

Folks that like the movie are probably less likely to be tossed into the gaping maw.

Watch this version, it'll give you the gist in 30 seconds: http://www.angryalien.com/1204/wonderful_lifebuns.asp[/color]

Sounds vaguely familiar. . . . is this a new movie?  :p :)

Bon Voyage

Ah, Jimmy Stewart, a man with the acting skills of Nicholas Cage.

marc

Be careful.  You know what happened to Liberty Valance when he started dissing Jimmy Stewart. Better be careful and make sure John Wayne isn't standing in the shadows with a rifle.  :p

marc

Oh, and my friend Harvey here says he doesn't like to hear you talking like that either.

An interesting thing about this movie.    It was just another Christmas movie when it was made (every studio made one every year, and they're more or less fungible) and it wasn't long before everyone forgot about it.

In fact,  everyone forgot about it so much that the studio let the copyright lapse.

At that point,  it became something extremely cheap for TV stations to show around Christmas (this was back in the late 60's - early 70's) and guess what?   A timeless classic was born.

And now you know. . . .the rest of the story.

It's true this movie was sort of ho-hummed when it was first released.  That was mainly because Frank Capra's movies were not ever very well received by critics.  They called his work \"Capra-corn\" because of its sentimentality.

However, many of his films were savaged by critics, yet have become classics: Arsenic and Old Lace, Meet John Doe, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, You Can't Take It With You, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, It Happened One Night just to name his best known work.

Another Capra film that doesn't get its due is Pocket Full of Miracles with Bette Davis and Glenn Ford.  [This was the first movie I saw in a movie theater, and it was quite the big deal.  This was when you got dressed up to go out to eat, which my parents and I did before seeing this delightful movie.] Great supporting cast: Peter Falk, Ann Margaret's screen debut.  If you like Wonderful Life, you will enjoy this film.

OD,

Is your last name \"Clever\", btw?

\"You Can't Take It With You\" is probably more of a favorite of mine than \"It's A Wonderful Life\".
