Never been anywhere that taught it.

It'd make a dandy study and help us understand ourself.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you approach it.  Do you teach it from the pulpit, in bible classes, in small groups, in new members classes, or what?

I was just thinking that one great way to remind our people of their heritage is to use stories from Restoration History as illustration in messages.  Then occasionally have a four week refresher class in bible school focusing on the issues of the movement, the slogans of the movement, the personalities of the movement, or the failures of the movement.

Does "The Church of Christ was founded on the day of Pentecost, went into hiding almost immediately, and only reemerged within the last two centuries. The Catholic Church was the first split from the Church of Christ and all the other denominations split off later.  We are the only true church and we have existed continually since Pentecost." count as teaching restoration history? :sarcasim:

Hi,

We had one class on Church History for one quarter. I've been a member of the church for seven years. So one quarter doesn't sound so bad. The preacher mentions Campbell or Stone one or twice a year.

I'm just wondering how much time your churches spend reminding people in the restoration movement of their heritage.  At the church where I minister, I can say that is done very little, if any at all.

Do you think it should be taught?  How would you go about teaching it?

When I was a Preacher (big "P"), I would include references to it every once in a while, during Bible Studies, and during "Worship Service". Now that I am a preacher (little "p"), I still bring it up during both occassions, as applicable. I have also used it in many illustrations, etc., in personal teaching.

I believe RM history provides some deep insight into who we are, and helps us to realize where we've gone... I find it interesting that when the history "helps" the cause, it is on many a lip... But when it "hurts" the cause, many attempt to distance themselves from it. (Kind of like the author of that tract that the Duluth Church of Christ put out...).
