I flipped a coin and picked the Steelers.  Actually, they are my fellow Appalachian-Americans.

CDHealy

As I've said before:

Steelers by three.

twd

The Steelers are peaking at just the right time.

OldDad

I went with Steelers ONLY out of loyalty to the AFC.

I would also like former University of Alabama Crimson Tide and Boone County Kentucky High School standout Shaun Alexander to perform well.  He is a fine Christian man.

Surely there is some theological construct that would cause him to see that coming to Carolina and playing for the Panthers is the Lord's will.

OldDad

Nick,

The only thing I can think of is that verse about "strong delusions"...

Hope this helps,

It should be no secret that I'll be rooting against the Steelers.  Although, it might do me better in the long run if they won.  You see, then the players will demand to renegotiate their contracts.  Especially Pig Pen, er, I mean Big Ben.  Then management won't have enough money to keep the team together, and the Steelers slide into mediocrity.

Back when I debated in high school, I could have linked the Steelers winning the Superbowl to nuclear holocaust.  Alas, I've let those skills slide somewhat.

However, I've nearly talked myself into rooting for the Steelers....but....naw!

:D

You are going to criticize Big Ben, when you have Jake "Grizzly Man" Plummer...

He can grow all the hair he wants, he is still Jake Plummer, a guy who has never won a meaningful football game in his life. He did nothing in the win against New England, the Patriots beat themselves. Then Jake unraveled badly against the Steelers. I think there is a lot of people in Denver who would not hesitate to have Big Ben at the helm instead of Jake the Fake...

my humble 2 cents

If Indy would have won, I would have rooted for them (being a Hoosier and all), but I would have rooted for Denver if they had won.  After all, we AFCers know that the "other" conference only exists to be cannon fodder for our teams, right?
Steelers should be OK if they remain serious.  I don't know what to make of the Seahawks for sure, but I know that they have 2 wins over Arizona and barely beat Tennessee.   Not impressive.

Don't get too cocky, I think the Steelers will win as well, but lets be clear the Steelers had their moments as well this year. Including needing 4 quarters to beat the hapless Lions at home just to get in the playoffs. A game Big Ben looked horrible in with only 135 passing yards. Don't crown the Steelers champs yet, the Seahwaks are the #2 offense in the NFL and Mike Holmgren knows a thing or two about winning Super Bowls's, I think this will be a very close game. I think the Steelers have the edge with Jeff Reed over Josh Brown as kicker and that will be the difference...

Bon Voyage

hapless Lions?

HAPLESS LIONS????!!!

Yep, they are.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling cocky about the Steelers.  It will probably be a tough game that they could very well lose.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm having a hard time getting a feel for how good the Seahawks really are.  I think Indy was a really good team, but that they seemed more awesome than they really were because they had 4 wins against Texas and Tennessee and barely beat Cleveland.  Same with Cincy.  Mediocre against winning teams, but great against teams with losing records.

I voted Steeler, too.  But does anyone who voted that way have that nagging feeling that the Seahawks are a lot better than we might think?

I was a huge Baltimore Colts fan when a guy by the name of Joe Namath predicted the Jets would win....

And, yes, I am that old...

Prediction:

Steelers -- 21
Seahawks -- 17

I'll pick the Steelers and root for them as well, but only because of home town connections. Bettis is from Detroit, Foote played at UM (although so did the Seahawk's Hutchinson) and Big Ben played his high school and college ball just a few miles south of here in the Toledo area.

And one other reason. The year before last I had Hasselback and Brees as QBs in a fantasy league and in the final game of the playoffs I picked Hasselback at home in Seattle in a must win game instead of Brees on the road in Indy in a game that didn't mean anything. Of course, Hasselback stunk up the joint and Brees had a good game and I lost my playoff game!

Last year I had a good fantasy team.  This year I was in two leagues and stank.  Had Culpepper as QB in the first game.  Negative points.  Imagine that, a qb getting negative points.

marc

I'm still upset that Carson Palmer tanked the first round of the playoffs for me (and I had Alexander too), while my opponent got career games out of a couple of players.

I should've won it all!!!!:(

I still think of the Seahawk as an AFC West team...

So it's like there's no NFC team at all this year...

You make a good point.  Now just have to get you over the loss in the playoffs so that you can pull for the Steelers.

I mean, I'm a Ravens fan and I'm putting that all behind me so that Jerome can go out with the ring.  (Come on, any nicer guy playing the game this year? The reason, well we can look in the stands and see two parents loving their child bunches and never missing a game.)  [Wiping away a tear]   :D

current poll is 15-2 in favor of Steelers, I hope they win or a lot of us are going to look real silly:p

marc

Well, I missed the first half completely.  Since we start evening services at 6 and don't have enough football fans to do anything about it, I always miss the first part, but never enough to concern me.

Tonight, though, we had three baptisms.  I just knew that invitation would be trouble! :;):  And not a one of the people being baptized was over 75 years old!  They'd waited this long; what's another few days!

FORTY MINUTES OVERTIME!  I MISSED THE WHOLE FIRST HALF!!!

Where are peoples' priorities, anyway?  :p

OldDad

I openly and unabashedly rescheduled our evening activities one hour earlier than normal, so we could make kickoff.  Made it with 15 minutes to spare.

I just wish I had missed Aretha and Aaron mangling the National Anthem...It was horrible!
