Bill,

That's a praise team that can be a praise team as long as it is sitting down.   Some day, they might get to be a praise team that is still a praise team when they stand!  Catch my drift :>)

Wiley

Hi karise,
Good to hear from you.I'm Keith Lancaster's father-in-law.Wasn't he just down your way.

Good to know that your husband is still singing.I remember the good old days when AVB,Acapella, had their workshop in Kentucky.I believe your red headed husband was singing at the time.

Amen to the praise team.

God bless,Charles

P.S.Acappella's new cd of old hymns is terrific.

Emily,

One thing I didn't mention is that if you can't come to Stream, keep a watch for a church sponsering "A Day of Praise" with Key Young and Hallal.  It's a three hour worship event and is definitly something you should consider attending.  They post their schedule on the Hallal web site.  Oh, one other thing, if you want to get some really good CD's, pick up Hallal's "The Singer's Worship Series".  If you purchase one album, you will end up buying all of them!  I work in an enclosed room with alot of radio equipment, security camera monitors, and computers by myself.  The room is a hardened room which means it is bullet proof and explosive resistant (along with being sound resistant because of the thick concrete/metal walls and door).  I've been told by patrol officers that I can be heard on the outside singing to the CD's when I'm working in that room and I occassionally get jumped for Hallal being heard in the background of the two-way:>).  You can order them direct on-line from Hallal or through several of the book dealers.

And Karise is sooo on target about Stream carrying you along ways into the year.  It is one of the most uplifting times of worship, study, and fellowship my wife and I have ever been involved in.

God bless,

Wiley

Emily

Sorry I've been late answering your post, Charles. I am so excited that it is the same Accapella that I heard and liked.  I bought one of their tapes a few years ago after I heard a neat song on the radio, but I am not sure what happened to it.  I think I am going to buy one of their CDs this week. I will look for the one with "Rescue" on it, I do not think I have ever heard it.  I will look for them if they come to the northern VA/DC area. I would love to go to a concert.

Karise

Hi all!

Just a note to begin, my name is derived from the Greek word for "grace".

I am a wife to a youth minister and mother to three!  (Boys-11 and 9 and girl almost 7).  We live near the Gulf Coast of Texas and work with the Nichols Street Church of Christ.  I am from Tennessee and grew up in a conservative house, but one that was willing to study all things.  My father is a minister in the CofC, so I have always been into all the "issues" during my growing up years.

I work for a small school district as a data entry person. My oldest son has cerebral palsy. My husband was in AVB for 3 years ( the redhead) and now sings on occaision with Hallal.  We both sing on our church's "sit-down" praise team.

God bless and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Wiley!  See you at Streams.

Karise

Bill

What is "a sit-down praise team?"

Emily

Karise, I think it is funny about the sit down praise team. At least the chuch is trying...maybe one day  :)  I have a couple of other question...what/who is AVB? Also...what is the Streams?  I may have missed it in another post.  I would love to go to an uplifting spiritual gathering. Not sure I can make it to Texas...but if everything is going well, maybe I could.

Emily

Is this something I will get in trouble for if I ask some people at church to go with me?  :)   I have never heard anything like this mentioned at my church.  Maybe it is just a Texas thing.

Emily,

This will be the 7th year for Stream in the Desert.  It just keeps growing every year ans is becoming better known everyyear.

>Is this something I will get in trouble for if I ask some people at church to go with me?:>)

That's a possibility :>)

We live about 250 miles from Midland and there are alot of people at church that don't know about it.  Then there are some that you don't talk about Stream around :>).  However, considering that some of us can't keep our mouths shut about it, it will get known!!!  Already have a number of people at Granbury saying they may try to come for the first time (they didn't know about it until recently).  I knew about it for 4 years before I was able to attend.  Now, I just turn in the vacation time for the next year the week I get back from Stream!

One word of advice, if you are planning to go, get your reservations in for lodging ASAP.  Golf Course Road does have some families the put up Stream attendee's but I have been told that usually fills fast.  We have stayed at the La Quinta and it is quite nice and reasonable.  We will be staying in the hotel that's close to the Convention Center this time.  We made those reservations before leaving last April.

BTW, for you attendees from last year, if you remember the noisy aluminum bleacher section at the far end of the colliseum, that's where we were sitting!

Wiley

Karise

Emily!  Sorry it has taken so lomg for me to reply, but I have 3 kids and the husband left for the National Youth Minister's convention tonight and....Whew!

Where is it you said you were from?  I think if you are financially able, it is a must.  We are carried so far during the year by the activities of Streams.  We get an added bonus with Terry singing with Hallal.  we get to share in their share group.  These people are very excited to be serving God thru that ministry and they are genuine from everything I can tell.  Please let us know if you can come.  kcheatham@vvisd.org

As for AVB, they are a group formed by Keith Lancaster in 1986.  They were originally formed as a back-up type group to Keith's full time group, Acappella.  This is the only known full-time acapella singing group that tours the country as their ONLY job.  Anyway, Terry was asked to sing with them in 86 and we met in 87.  He recorded three albums in his time there.  He left in 1989 after we married.  Hope that helps.

Peck,

If you are Keith's father in law, then you must be Donnie's dad! Poor thing!  Ha!!!  We love him to death and I was always trying to set him up with friends of mine at Lipscomb.  Is he still an attorney?  Tell Sharon "hi".

Well  I must go.  Got to be up at 5:30.  If anyone needs to ask a question, holler at my school email.  (above)

Singing a new song,

Karise

Emily

Cool.  I am getting excited and I do not even know what in the world it is about!  Anyway, I am from northern Virginia...near DC (Fredericksburg to be exact).  If you e-mail me, I will send you my home address, and if you will send me some flyers, I will put them out at church.  If they get upset with me, oh well, they think I am pretty strange anyway :)   I am just kidding.  They are really a loving, compassion congregation and have been super kind to me.  I can't imagine that they would not be interested in something spiritually uplifting.
They really like to party (eh....fellowship) too!  (We were just told yesterday in a budget meeting that the church spent much money on fellowhip (campouts, retreats, etc) in 2001 and we need to do more out of pocket for 2002 for the fun stuff!) Everyone said ...we'll pay!...don't stop the fellowship activities!  So maybe I can get some people to come with me.
Aother question...is this the Accapella group that I have heard on Christian radio.  If so, I am familiar with them...I love their music and have a tape by them.  I had no idea they were from the coC although it should have crossed my mind from their name.  My best friend, who is the pastor's wife of a minister at a Calvary Chapel in Calif., introduced me to their music.
Rats...just noticed the time...gotta get to work!

Emily,
Yes,it is the same group called acappella that you hear on christian radio.I hope you have a tape that has "Rescue" on it.

The best way to enjoy their music is to attend a concert. What you may think is music on their tapes is their voices imitating sounds.

God bless,Charles

peck

Patrick,
Yes,Acapella is touring a lot. They have a great group now with a bass that is somewhat like Rodney.

The Tulsa workshop will be a time for the old classic Acapella group to have a reunion in song.Keith .Rodney,Rayburn,George.Unbelievable.

I wish they would do "Water from the well"on stage for the little ones like they used to.

God bless,Charles

peck

Emily,

Thanks for your reply.A concert is by far the best way to hear Acappella. They put on a first class performance and hardly any one leaves during intermission.

So far there is not one scheduled in your part of the country.

On a funny side,I was scheduled to provide banjo accompanimemt to a bluegrass album that was being produced at the same studio acappella was producing an album. When I walked up to the recording door, one of the group said, you have to go downstairs(dinky studio)since we are using this one.I looked at him and said, alright but I'm going to start an all instrumental group and I'm not going to allow any vocals. He thought I was serious.

God bless,Charles

WileyClarkson

Karise,

Wow, Glad to have you here.  I own all of AVB's older CD's and several tapes!  I'm still working on our church on the idea of a sit-down praise team.  It will happen in time.  I'll definitly be looking for you out at Stream.  I'll be enjoying Stream with my whole family.  My oldest daughter is the children's minister at Turnpike CoC in Grand Prairie and her husband fills in occassionally as song leader when the regular song leader is off singing in Hallal.  If you want to see my family, go to www.clarksons.org.

God bless,

Wiley

WileyClarkson

Emily,

I'll let Karise tell you about AVB (they are really awesome!).

Karise,

Yes,I'm Donnie's dad.He is an attorney in Nashville.Keith and Sharon are also in Nashville.

Terry was a favorite of ours and we hated to see you leave. He is an excellent tenor.

I get excited about streams just listening to you and wiley.Positive feedback is so refreshing after all the opposition going on in the CoC about praise teams, clapping and raising hands. It seems a new sin has been added to our list of sins called"holy entertainment".How sad.

God bless,Charles

"Rescue" is my favorite Accapella song. I haven't seen them lately. Are they still touring?

Patrick

Jimbo

Hello everyone. I zeroed in on this talk of Accappela. I have almost every album they have done(AVB and the rest). I love 'em. They are supposed to have a 20 year reunion in Tulsa this year at Soulwinning Workshop. That will be something to see. Im going.
Someone asked about a good cd to get, with "rescue" in it. A very good one(especially if you have'nt gotten any) would be "the collection". It has 2 versions of "rescue": the original by Wayburn Dean and a new one by Barry Wilson. Great!!
