I love humor to keep us from being too serious.

Good one, Booty!

Talkin' 'bout the Irish ... are the Irish ... what's that term, I want to say "Irish Trick or Treaters" but that ain't right. LOL
Having a senior moment about 20 years too early here!
Trackers?? Is that right? Well, whatever!! I know it's not cooner,  ha ha ...  Question is, is that the same as the term "black Irish"? I think that's Pierce Brosnan's background, so if it's the same thing, I'll just picture you looking like Pierce Brosnan. LOL

My prayers and thoughts have been with you and the people there.

Tinkers is the term you are looking for I believe. To make a long story short, Irish Gypsies. (And to the best of my knowledge, my own heritage.)

As far as Black Irish, I believe that term originated in the same place as Faith and begorrah; Hollywood U.S.A. Supposedly it refers to possible descendants of shipwreked Spanish sailors who washed up on the shores of Ireland from the Armada. Interesting tale, but I prefer the faeries my self.

I really would hate to disappoint you,  so Pearce Brosnan it is then.   Err you wouldn't be comong to Venezuela soon would you, I mean Pearce does need time to properly age :D

LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the prayers, it's getting worse down here.

Janine,

My husband is cajun through-and-through... and he loves to cook!

He likes to tell that joke about the crawdaddie mamau and the crawdaddie son walking along the bayou. The little-son crawdaddie sees a polecat and says "Run Mamau! Let's jump in the bayou! There's a polecat and he's going to eat us up!" But Mamau crawdaddie says, "Calm now little-son crawdaddie. Polecats eat grubs, they don't like to eat little ol' crawdaddies." Presently, the little-son crawdaddieis tiny black eyes fell upon aligator. "Run Mamau! Let's jump in the bayou! There's an alligator and he is going to eat us up!" But Mamau crawdaddie says, "Calm now little-son crawdaddie! Alligators eat fish and nutria. They don't bother with with little ol' crawdaddies." And they walked on. Presently, the little-son crawdaddie's beady black eyes fell upon a wild-boar. "Run! Mamau! Let's jump in the bayou! There's a wild boar and he's going to eat us up!" But Mamau crawdaddie calmed her son and said, "Now son, that wild boar roots in the ground for his supper, he is not interested in us crawdaddies!" And they walked on. Presently, the little son crawdaddies beady black eyes fell upon a creature he had never seen before. He said, "Mamau. I'll bet that thing over there doesn't eat crawdaddies either."  But mamau crawdaddie hollered, "Run little-son crawdaddie! Jump in the bayou! That creature is a Cajun and he will eat ANYTHING!"

As I understand my history, the English relocated many of the Scotch to Ireland because they were apparently the only folks with a nasty enough disposition to deal with the Irish. In the US they tended to be the frontier folks between the Indians and the settlers.

If you stay on the frontline you are bound to make a few heros.

I would be a disgrace to my Scottish ancestors. I come from a line of Presbyterians who ran off those liberals who thought it was OK to sing hymns instead of just Psalms and chanting scriptures. (My mother is a geneology nut and uncovered that tidbit in old letters).

Here we have Danny O'Leary whom the Venezuelan governement disinterred in Colombia to replace him at the side of the Liberator, Simon Bolivar in the tomb of honor in Caracas.  Danny and thousands of other Irish came to Venezuela to help in the fight with Spain for independence. History states they were fierce warriors, but for some unknown reason always remained a slight discipline problem. Probably the change in climate. We have O'Leary Plaza in Caracas.

Mexico City has the Plaza de Los San Patricios honoring the Irish lads who originally landed in New Orleans and enlisted to false promises of Land and Citizenship for service in the US Army. When they were assigned to the border in the war with Mexico, then in addition to being denied their promised land and citizenship, they were restricted from attending mass as the catholic churches were Mexican. They left the US Army and joined the Mexican Army to form the Brigada San Patricio, an artillery brigade which was highly decorated by the Mexican government. Those that were captured were refused prisoner of war statues by the US, (Despite  further promises to the Mexican government), and were hung as deserters.

Argentina has a very large Irish community formed by the early Irish pioneers who literally carved a civilization out of the wilderness there.

The French Foreign Legion has many stories of Irish heroes as does I understand the United States, Audie Murphy if I am not mistaken. Irish lads have long left Ireland seeking a warm bed and a hot meal, if fighting was required to earn it, they fought.

We are called the Wild Geese, Irish who have been displaced over the years by famine and cruelties by the British. The British had learned from previous conquerers of Ireland that the Irish quickly assimilated their conquerors until they became more Irish than the Irish. To avoid this, the British displaced the Irish with Presbyterian Scots loyal to the crown. They are concentrated in the six counties which comprise Ulster and still are under British domination.

The Republic of Ireland recognizes citizens of Ulster as Irish and offers them citizenship, as well the Wild Geese, the Irish diaspora are are considered Irish citizens in the first generation and offered citizenship in the second and possibly the third generation.

It is a land with a tragic history , but the Irish have developed quite a maudlin humor to deal with it. It was told to me that a few of the tragic cartoon characters of the second world war were inspired bythe Irish. Interesting note, Ireland remained neutral during the war, in fact actually entertained negotians with the Germans. I find this shocks many Yanks, but you must remeber that they shared a common enemy in England. Actually I often wonder how it came to be that after all the problems the United States endured with England, how they ever became as close as they now appear.

Enough Irish history, it is my secret passion!!

Bon Voyage

After years of painstaking scholarly investigation, researchers at Trinity College have released the missing verse from Genesis. Found preserved in a plastic bag by the aincients, the scrap of papyrus was faithfully translated and proved to be the missing verse from Genesis.

Now the effort will be made to determine exactly where to insert it. It appears here in it's entirety.

Ahh my dear Lord, please forgive me once more, but in these days I just had to find a cause to smile. And a smile is to be shared.

But Gus, I was smiling on April 1, It's just harder right now.

I'm Irish, Irish-Jew to be precise. My family is from County Cork -- the Golden's. From what I can tell, they aren't very funny. They get mad quickly, yell a lot and lie. But, I love em.

Tinkers! Thanks, Booty! Maybe I'll remember it now!

I love to look at people, and find out about all the rich variety of ancestries and bloodlines and genetics that went into all the rich variety of appearance and culture.

My Mike's as Celtic as they come, a Scot, as far as ancestry; he's got (silvering) coffee-black hair and hazel-brown eyes shaded to black by being so deep-set; he's very fair unless he works in the sun, then he gets leather-brown.  Me, I've indeterminate brown-red hair, gray eyes and I'm very fair too, but with a magenta blush instead of olive tanning tendencies.  Can't tell how much of that is "Cajun" French and how much is what else, since Mama was adopted.  The kids are beautiful in my eyes, of course; they all look like Daddy with the dark hair and eyes.  I told Mike when the first was born, with all that black hair, that he must've cheated on me; there was none of me in her!

People are so beautiful to look at.  So much variety.  So much capacity to love and be Christ-like, God bless 'em.

Next time I think of a good Cajun joke I'll post it.

Two boyos see an ad, Tree Feller wanted.

Arkstfan! Arkstfan!

Have I got a video for you!  (And for anyone else w/ an interest in the Stone-Campbell Film Project, or Alex. & Thom. Campbell, or the Restoration Mvmnt., or the Scots/Presbyterians in Ireland, or the entrepeneurial (sp?) spirit of the fellows running about after the American Revolution, or standing rock-firm in the faith despite inner & outer persecution...)

Look up on the 'net or see your local misic/video store:
"Wrestling with God"; a Journey Production, starring Paul Mercier, Allison Gregory, Bill Hayes, Susan Seaforth Hayes and David Ackroyd as Robert Owen (the atheist?)

Available through Gateway Films/Vision Videos; 2030 Wentz Church Rd., Bx540, Worchester Pennsylvania, 19490, USA; ph. (800) 523-0226.

I don't mean to be a commercial!  I just really think it's a well-done film.  The acting is actually good, which doesn't always happen in these project/historical films.  It ought to appeal to anyone who likes history.  And to anyone struggling and searching for God's best & getting accused of bucking authority in the process! ;)
