BH,

First and most importantly, I will join bobbyV and others from this board in praying for your total health, spiritual and physical, each day.

Also, and I hope I don't come off patronizing here, use your resources to get information about this disease.  Cancer is a word that can strike fear in our hearts, but leukemia in many forms can be beaten with the proper, timely treatment.  Visit the library, get out on the Internet, read, ask questions, make them explain stuff to you, write it down, then read some more.  At some point you may have to trust the management of your case to the "professionals", but be determined to be the most knowledgeable patient your doctor has ever had.

Please keep us informed.

Blessings,

OD

And I don't believe in "hell" or "the devil" but they both make for good scary movies.

Well it is like this.  The Devil if he exists must be pretty scared, because if I go to Hell I go to rule it!  I've got the perfect job for him too---reading all of Foy Wallace's, Goebel Music's, Dub McLish's ect. writings for one million years.
B.H.
Even God wouldn't punish satan that bad."just kidding.
I visit the cancer center each day and we try to treat our illness with a little humor throwed in while we wait for radiation.

Hey,I understand your anxiety. But you will be in good hands.Modern techniques and medicine works miracles and God blesses these events even for atheist.Your tests will probably be in your favor but 1 more prayer will be added on your behalf.

I usually don't put God bless you when replying to atheist because I don't want to offend but this time......God bless you B.H.,Charles

Barry,

Many of us have been where you are right now.  We truely sympathize with the feelings you are having and you will be prayed for.  I'm supposed to call for pathology results on some polups I had removed a short time ago (been putting it off a little???) and my wife is scheduled for the same exam due to colon pain and a suspicious knot on her colon :( .

That view is out there.  I've read a number of ministers on other list/forums in the CoC who don't accept the view of an eternal Hell and some ministers that don't accept a view of Hell at all.  "The Devil" is usually included in those views.  I think people who subscribe to these views tend to be more universalist than many in the CoC.  I don't think this board is any weider than any other baord, especially some of the hard-line CoC boards that hold to their ultra-traditional ultra-legalistic views.

Oh man!!!---for some of us that would be a terrible punishment!!! :D

May God's mercy, love, and healing be with you, and your family, during this time of uncertainty.

I am praying for good news today.

B.H. I just got my computer back and am playing catch up with the posts...sorry to hear what you are facing. I have faced cancer myself and trust God no matter the outcome. Will pray that God will become real to you through this and pray for your healing.

p.s. I do believe in the devil, and I had to chuckle a little over a post about something endangering our friend still has to include a debate.

Maurine (seekr)

I just came to the board for the first time in a few days.  Work's been crazy.

I will be praying for you, too.  I don't know you that well, but God does & He'll know how to help you best....more than I ever would.

B.H.,

Negative is such a precious word when it comes to cancer.I'm proud for you and your folks.A celebration is in order.

I am so happy your results were negative.  God answers prayer and I pray you will see this, but I am not going to preach at you as I know your beliefs.
Sorry,  I just read this entire thread.  I have been away for a couple of days.  My husband and I went had a romantic get-away.
I am still praying for your health.  Keep us informed.
Susie

Everyone can feel safe in their faith at GCM now.  Ol' BH may go be with the devil soon!!!

I went to the doctor today for some tests which indicated that I may have leukemia.  Now, I know most all of you really could care less, but I do think a few here might.

Mike and terry, if I have it I know I will have to take chemo, but what else could I expect along the way?

Out of a board with about 15 people reading and two replies is all I get?  The infidels would have showered me with support.  I suggest Booty and Co. go learn love from them.

I am going to get the test results tomorrow afternoon hopefully.

Christian love?  Just two people?  Phooey, though not at them!

Did you go to the doc because you've been feeling sick, or was this a routine physical?

May you be blessed,
Barb
It was a routine physical.

patriciaredstone

B.H.,

I know what you are going through. You want advice, but any and all advice you get is just absorbed to the huge, surreal shock wave ... the concerned brows of the doctors, the too-big cheerfulness of the lab techs, the new language ... aspiration, CBC's, titers, excisional biopsy, mass, adenopathy... "and are you still with the same HMO?" You have no choice but to ride the big rocky wave. For tonight, it might be cancer and it might not. If tomorrow, you know that is cancer, then deal with what can be done about it. One step at a time. If tomorrow you find that it is not cancer, then begin planning the rest of your life. After my husband's biopsy emerged non-malignant after six labs took a month passing it around, he cancelled his appointment with his radiologist, called a business broker and a real estate agent, sold the business and the house on the same day and took a job he always wanted (even though he would be making one-third the income) in a neighborhood he always wanted to live in (even though we couldn't afford it) and made a list of things he wants to do before he can't do them. We have been working on that list for almost 10 years now and are wondering why we didn't start it twenty years ago. Here's to your list B.H: BE HEALED!

Bill

B.H., it hurts to receive your news.  I hurt because you and your parents hurt. You are in my prayers.

Bill

I cannot sleep.  My parents are in bed crying like  children over this trying to not let me hear. Dad is recovering himself from esophagul cancer surgery himself and is in no shape to help me out.  He's hell-bent on doing it anyway and says he will take care of me even if it kills him having to do it.  Mother has just about blown her mind worrying about father and getting him well, and I don't know what she will do if she has to patients to take care of at home.

Nixie

Hi B.H.  I have been praying for you too.  I think we have a lot in common.   I would like to think you come to this board looking for something to restore your faith.  It  really is as simple as letting go, letting go of ego, letting go of control, letting go of what we have been told to believe.    Just letting go and reaching for Jesus in meekness and humbleness.  Hey it's not logical and I could never prove it too you in any testable way.  But it worked for me and I do now Believe.

I will pray that your tests are negative.

Love,

Greg

Well that sucks. I hope it turns out that you don't have any cancer at all. I will pray for you and for your parents too.

nerdneh

Barry, sorry I have not responded sooner. Just turned the computer on after being out of town for a couple of days. Distressed to hear what you are facing, and I mean it when I say I will pray for your well being and that of your folks as well.

Barb1957

Ditto what Bob said. Hope the docs get to the bottom of this soon. Please keep us posted! - Barb

Arkstfan

BH I'v been out of town. I'm sorry to hear of your scare.  The time between "We want to run some tests" and "Everything is OK" is longest time known to man.

Hope that whatever is wrong turns out to be OK.

You will be in my prayers and if you ever wanna talk, you always know my PM address.

[!--EDIT|Arkstfan|July 28 2002,07:58--]

Oh, Booty, I could not forget a twit like you at a time like this.  If you have not read it yet, you have a most special private message from me.

Booty

Barry,

You already have a pm waiting.

I can not start praying for you, I can only continue. You have been in my prayers for what, one month? two? You remain there even more so now.

I cannot begin to tell you how hard I am hit with your news. I am praying on my knees that your notice tomorrow will be good.

Whether you believe it or not, I have developed a liking for you. With all your rough spots and all that, I still look forward to your pms, emails and posts. I feel as if I would recognize you if we ever could meet face to face.

Barry I know you just do not believe in Him, but with this news of your own mortality would you consider at least saying hello to Him? His name hasn't changed, it is still Jesus. He is patiently waiting for you.

I do want to reach out and shake your hand Barry, if not here on this old earth then in His mansion in the room we have waiting for us.

God bless you lad, if I could take on your illness I would, I have lived enough of this life and I have peace with my maker, I look forward to seeing Him. Anyway I can help, please let me know. The offer to come down here is still open. You could lay on the beach of the beautiful Carribean every day and watch His glorious world float by.

What do you mean you don't believe in Hell.  YOU ARE a Christian are you not?  This board gets weirder and weirder all of the time.

janine

Just because I didn't reply until now, doesn't mean I don't think about you all the time!  I've been busy valet-ing for hubby, getting him out to work, since 4:30 a.m.

A young woman I know, wife of a summer-intern-youth-minister we had for a couple summers, has been fighting leukemia-style symptoms for over a year.  They can't peg it down to leukemia; they think it may be due to her spleen & maybe they'll take it out.

Even when it's not leukemia, even thinking it may be puts you & your family & your physicians on "high alert".

I hope it's not, for you.  Even the ups and downs our sister-in-the-Lord has gone through are easier than the often-grueling trial that is an anti-cancer battle.

No cancer for me, I'm thankful; but, I can look at the deaths of my daughter and grandparents, and the illness and misfortune and wrenching sad things that have happened to my loved ones, and come up with a little taste of the feelings you may have right now.

Uncertainty, apprehension, a feeling like the rug has been pulled out from under you, almost like a betrayal.  A mourning for your life the way it was before & the way it may not be again, depending on what you're fighting.

A feeling of having missed out on opportunities that you'll be too busy to enter into now, while you have to concentrate on yourself... you know, wasted chances.

A feeling of needing to take care of the people around you even though you're the injured one.   And who would take care of my obligations, my family, if I were first tied up in a health battle, then, God forbid, if I were called home so young?

Anyway, drawing on my own times of turmoil and pain, that's what I'd begin feeling if I were looking at leukemia.

Where will your support, your backup, come from?  If it turns out that you are seriously ill, who will be "God with skin on" to you and your family?  Where is your parents' church family, if not your own?

If you are ill, have you alienated whatever faith-family would ordinarily be there?  Will you allow them to help you, if they are still near enough to hear of your need?

I hope you have no great need. I hope things work out.

Father, Abba, bless our friend with the touch of Your healing hand, and may his stressful time drive him into Your arms!

In Your Son I pray, with the guarantee of Your Spirit.

Amen?

B.H.,

I'm very sorry to hear this news.
You'll be in my prayers.

Well, off I go back to the doctor.  I will not be able to post anything until about 10 o'clock tonight.  If the news is bad I probably will just go to bed and if it is good I will let you know around then.

marc

Been away from the board for a few days, but I'll be praying too.  Having worked for the American Cancer Society for four years, I've been around way too much of this, and I know what a monster the word cancer itself is.  Just the mention of the word immediately summons the worst fears.  But I've seen a ton of healing, too, and seen the recovery numbers going up constantly.  I'll be praying for this (or rather for a negative test result).

peck

Wyley,
I understand your hesitation in calling for the results of your test. There's a lot of dread between the biopsy and waiting to get the results.

My prayer is for you and your wife that both tests will be non cancerous.

God bless you both,Charles

nerdneh

Well, Barry, hope they can get to the bottom of this "feeling bad" that has been going on, but it is super news that the tests so far are negative.

Beverly Nuckols (hocndoc)

BH,
I'm glad that the follow up tests were negative.  I wish I could explain how our "miracles of medicine" are sometimes just "voo doo."

Always wait for the confirmatory test, and make sure you know what's being tested for and why. Remember, in those big panels of 20 tests, at least one will likely be "abnormal" just for spite. Or because your body forgot to read the medical texts and didn't know any better.

I hope and pray that you will give in to that tug from God that I think you've been feeling. You know you're thirsty. Let Jesus give you living waters, please.

After all, you had a pretty good chance to experience being out of control this week, letting Jesus take control of your soul and life should be just that much easier.
I'm definitely not - repeat not - saying that this whole experience is due to God's work, either to punish or to teach you.  Give me a minute, here, to explain.

As I said before, don't you feel something missing? What is all this energy that you spend and expend on this list, except a way to cope with or evade the missing something?

When you feel bad, and especially when you thought you had what you perceived to be a deadly disease, didn't you feel a very primitive, in your gut, desire/demand for justice from the universe?

I am of the strong belief that this desire for justice is one of those qualities that defines us as human. And that  it is due to the way our biochemistry and physical body works or it is due to the way God made us (essentially the same for those of us who believe in God.)

Would you be satisfied with partial justice, or do you wish for Unconditional justice, and love, truth, beauty and "Good" ?  Well, if you have any little spark of a belief in God, or if you can consider that others of us do and pretend for a second that you could entertain the idea, don't you see how this desire (built into us) might reflect the nature of God?

What is the best, highest, most universal of all these qualities that every child just "knows" exists? Wouldn't that be  Unconditional Love?  Unconditional Love would lead to Unconditional justice, truth, etc.

If there is a God, and if He made us, and we all "know" that there is better (than any human can actually achieve or exhibit) Love, Justice, etc, then, wouldn't He be the best or most likely example of Unconditional Love. Love for us. So much so that He would want to be Emmanuel or "God with us." So, He sends us Jesus, who suffered for us, because of our sin. One Man suffered even though He had no sin, to make sure that that part of us which God knows desires Love and Justice would not have to be without Love or Justice for eternity, but would be of God, as Jesus is of God.

I hope you had patience to read this. I pray that you will let go of your anger and just Love.

Beverly

B.H. you may have been wounded deeply by some insensitive Christian somewhere in the past -- nothing I can do about that.  Sometimes we Christians are the Master's worst enemy.  Nietzsche once claimed there was only one real Christian and he died on a cross outside of Jerusalem.

But I want you to know that I will pray for your health everyday. I would also recommend a good book by John Mark Hicks.  You have lots of questions:  Hicks can help think some of those questions out.  Hicks has gone through much suffering in his life: his first wife died of a blood clot, his son died of San Filippo Syndrome and his second wife deserted him.  There is nothing I or you can cover that he has not already.  Yet, his material is gut wrenchingly honest and profound -- with vibrant faith.  His work is called:

Yet Will I Trust Him: Understanding God in A Suffering World (College Press, 2001)

The book is now in a second edition and can be obtained through Amazon.com   I think you would find it at least enjoyable.

In prayers for you,
Bobby Valentine
