I just came upon a collection of early television shows on DVD that I had forgotten I had bought from Big Lots a while ago, and started watching episodes of Burns and Allen,  which turned out to begin with  their first episode. 

Here is a sample of their dialogue...

George -  What a pretty bouquet of flowers.

Gracie -  Why thank you, George.  I would never had gotten them if I hadn't followed your suggestion.

George -  You followed my suggestion?

Gracie - Why Yes!  Remember when I said I was going to visit Aunt Julia in the hospital, and you said I should take her flowers?

George - Yes...

Gracie - Well, as soon as she turned her back, I did!




[You just can't find humor like that on television anymore... ]
