Can anyone explain the history of the churches of Christ beyond restoration history? Or is the restoration really part of the churches of Christ? It seems to me there is a lot of myths about where we came from?

marc

No, but I can say a few things about the history of the Church of Christ, which is a quite different thing.

I would be interested in reading it. I read a variety of histories some prophetic in thinking other more from the idea of discovered truth. What I'm curious about is the time period between 90ad and 500ad.

We weren't around then (that's why I capitalized the C in church.)  ::tippinghat::

Sorry.  I tend to obsess on the small vs. big C thing. That's all my comment was about. In other words, yes, there are more myths than truths about where we came from, I believe.

If you are curious about that time period, read Eusebius.  I have read the Ecclesiastical History several times.  I always enjoy it and find myself strengthened by it.

I admire Polycarp myself and how he was martyred for his faith in Christ during the Apolstolic Period.

Polycarp is good.  I Clement is good.  Irenaeus is good.  You can skip Ignatius.

Eusebius isn't very reliable historically, but it's a nice collection of everybody's stories.

Why skip Ignatius of Antioch?

Doubtful authorship, multiple authorship, the letters contradict each other in places.  The usual reasons.

I think we should read history from many books including the bible.
Anyway you can read history of the main three churchs ( Orthodox,Catholic and protestant) churchs
and ofcourse it's impossible to seperate church history from the world history and of course the jewish history .
Reading history will make you enjoy the present and maybe expect the future some how.

thank you and good bye

Please be patient with me, as I must confess my ignorance. I have seen the term "restoration" applied , but I am lost as to what it means? The only restoration that I can thin of in history was when king Charles II was restored to the English throne around 1666 or so. But I do not think that this is what we speak of. Could someone educate me?  ::lookaround::

We're referring to the Restoration Movement, which was a movement among Protestant churches in America in the 1800s, out of which came such churches as the Christian Church and the Churches of Christ.
