I'm sorry but why would any Christian  not want to spend time reading the Bible. The signs around the world make it clear that we are living in end times. So if you really want to make it to Heaven. You need to know you scriptures. The bible clearly says that in end times the amount of false teachers and false prophets who can lead you astray will increase and you'll find yourself in some cult preparing to commit suicide. Have many people forgotten Jim Jones in Guyana, or David Keresh in Waco. There is the prophetest called ma. There is many more. The forum is great but it does not take the place of your Christian growth that you'll only get from reading and studying the bible.
In 1 Timothy 4:1-16 This is very good to read and can explain what I'm trying to say. I do not know how to say this in a loving way, but sometimes you just can't, If you think about it's sometimes you have to say or do things in a tough love manner.

Yes, it's essensial to study the Word of God.  To understand and to know Him we must spend private time with Him in study, pray and mediation.  These are things no one can do for us.  Listening to the Preacher on Sunday mornings is not enough.  We need to study so we know if the Preacher is preaching the truth. We need to know God on a personal basis and have a personal walk with Him.

Haven't they been increasing since the days of the apostles?

Ek Pyros

Anyone heard of L. Ray Smith?

Charles Sloan

Hah, I knew you'd get the reference, Charles.

I don't know of any evidence to suggest that! And make someone a false prophet?

Everyone needs to be ready, because you could die any day at anytime.

As far as the end times -- every generation since Jesus Christ have thought they were living in the end times, the signs were all around them.  Probably no more so than in the 1340 to 1722 during the plagues.  The Black Plague alone killed an estimated 75 to 100-Million people.  We freak out when we hear something involving 1,000 people.  They had to feel they were living in hell.

Prepare yourself not for the end times, but because you never know, and that is why you should live each day to its fullest.  Loving the Lord, Loving your family, enjoying everyone you meet, going the extra mile.
