Being unmarried has its own advantages. You can be more focused, being free form the cares and burdens of family life. This make it for the unmarried woman to pursue her spiritual goal and tract it down to fulfilment. The risk of being distracted is limited, while you wait for God (who is the founder of marriage) to lead you to your owm Adam/Eve or you wait in courtiship or going the process of partner selection, you shouldn't crowd your heart with thought abouts the creams of marriage. " he that believe will not make haste". Remember that the your patience with God will be tested at the same time time. Don't be eaten up by  the cares of getting married, building up a peaceful home and raising Godly kids, Let your be centered oc aquisition and demonstration of spiritual riches.
For now is the easy time when you can put in maximum consecration and concentration, staking all pains to dig deep of the riches of God's grace, probe the depths of  the mystery of God and lay strong foundation for the future mission. It is will of God for you to get married and surely, He will leads you to the bone of your bone and fless of your flesh. And once you get married, nothing remains the same. Therefore, the pre-marriage life should be spent to pursue spiritual attainments, acquire knowledge in divine matters and serve the Lord with zeal. !Corinthians 7:32-35
Remember also to flee the youthful lust that draw men unto perdition(1Corinthians 6:18)
God bless you.

My problem with this advice is that encourages a mindset of laziness and passivity. God blesses those who are dilligent. Anyone who wants to find a spouse has to be dilligent about.

When you look for a job, you have to do lots of research and send out resumes and go on interviews over and over again until you get the job. if you don't do those things, you will not find a job.  it is the same with finding a spouse.

I agree with you on this quite a bit.  Sometimes I feel that the reason for our singleness is God wanting to build us up for the married life, that he is preparing something for us that we cannot even imagine.  In the single life with all the temptations it makes us seek our God even more because least we fall from that narrow way!

That's a logical perspective on it.  Though by your logic if God wants us to be diligent then by all means we should be diligent in pleasing our flesh and devouring all the pornography our filthy hearts can handle.  I don't think that's what God wants.  Our God is not a God of logic's but a God of unpredictability.  Their things you want to be diligent in and things you want to let God work His will in.

Being diligent in the area of finding a spouse means prayer and time alone with God.  Prayer time spent asking for God to send a spouse in your life that loves God more then you do!  Praying for strength to resist the temptations of the world, resisting the flesh.  Being diligent in this area means trusting God even when your flesh feels like it is waiting to devour you.  Sacrificing this part of our life to God is the best thing we can do.  I highly doubt that will invoke any laziness or passivity.  I would hope that if one sacrifices their desires to God daily they would be renewed with vigor and strength.

If you want a spouse but you refuse to go out and meet people, then it doesn't matter how much time you spend praying, you aren't going to find a spouse.

Of course you pray for a spouse, but you also have to do your part as well (meeting people). Same with finding a job. you pray that God will provide a job for you, but you also do your part as well (sending out resumes, etc.)

or in the area of spiritual growth. You pray that God will make you a better Christian, but you do your part as well (read the bible, help people, etc.)

Of course pray for the things you want, but at some point you have to put in the effort and do your part. Christian singles remain single because they pray to God to give them a spouse, but they are not willing to do their part in meeting potential spouses, and therefore they stay single.
