Below is a list of commonly used shorthand/abbreviations on this forum:


BCV - book, chapter, verse

BIL - brother-in-law

BTW - by the way

CENI - Command, Example, Necessary Inference; the paradigm used by some as a basis of establishing authority for worship and government within the church, using Scripture.

CofC/CoC - Church of Christ; normally a reference to that fellowship of churches descended from the Stone-Campbell/American Restoration Movement.

DBR - death, burial, resurrection (of Christ)

DD - dear daughter

DH - dear husband

DIL - daughter-in-law

DS - dear son

DW - dear wife

DoC - Disciples of Christ

EO/EOC - Eastern Orthodox Church

FIL - father-in-law

FWIW - for what it's worth

ICC/CoC - Independent Christian Church/Church of Christ

ICoC - International Churches of Christ (aka Boston Movement)

IIRC - if I remember correctly

IM - instrumental music

IMO/IMHO - in my opinion/in my humble opinion

ISTM - it seems to me

KWIM - know what I mean

LS - Lord's Supper

MIL - mother-in-law

MDR - marriage, divorce, remarriage

MK - Missionary's Kid

NI - non-institutional

OSAS - once saved, always saved

OTOH - on the other hand

PK - Preacher/Pastor's Kid

RC/RCC - Roman Catholic Church

RM - Restoration Movement (Stone-Campbell Movement)

SIL - sister-in-law or son-in-law

SOAP - Son of a Preacher/Pastor

SOF - sign out front
