That's right, California farmers are turning to witchcraft trying to find water.

Watch the FoxNews Video here...

This probably isn't a good time to mention that I have demonstrated the ability to do this, eh?

Marc, I would like to hear more about this.

It's always been a traditional method of drilling wells around here (I'm assuming this is dowsing--I didn't watch the video), and there has been some assumption that there is some not-yet-understood science behind it, although only some people seem to be able to do it.  My parents' well was drilled with help from a man we went to church with, for instance.

When I was in around the seventh grade, I was attending a "talented and gifted" program in Huntington (an hour's drive away) on Saturdays.  One day we talked about dowsing, and they let each of us use coat hangers (instead of the traditional brances) and try to find the water lines going into the building.  I was the only one who had success--I found every one of them.

I don't have enough confidence to tell people where to drill, but in the years since I have, playing around, found water lines as well as underground streams in several places.  I don't know why or how, and, as I've said, don't have the confidence to do it for money.

OneLung

The video says they can find water up to 800 feet deep with a high degree of accuracy.

"Water Witching" is a manner of finding water with a willow branch that supposedly is drawn to water just as a root of a tree seeks water. It is done successfully with enough regularity to have brought study of the practice by science. You might compare it with a compass pointing south. Is it of the devil? I doubt that even though its tag of being witching sure don't sound good.

Why does one person have more success than another in finding water? Possible their bearing-like handling of the willow stick. It might be possible to negate that part of the equation by having a tool with a perfect balanced bearing to mount the willow stick on.

When my niece was about 16, she asked me how a compass works. I told her this big long story about how back in the day when airplanes were first invented we used to lose many of them because they didn't have any way to know where they were going.  I told her that's why Amelia Earhart took off and was never heard from again. Then I told her that scientists in the United States built two humongous electro-magnets and sent one to be installed at the North Pole and the other to be installed at the South Pole. Then they sold everyone compasses and now airplanes don't get lost anymore.

That was about 10 years ago, but knowing her, she probably still believes it.

Got a mate here in town who paid hundreds of dollars to someone for this dowsing thing. Went over his entire property, and told him the greatest possibilities for finding water were in a particular spot in his backyard. Spent a further $6000 drilling, and found nothing. He finally did dig a well at the front of his property, and found water, but the well was in sand and kept silting up, so is no longer used. I think he spent almost $20 000 in all, then gave up.

I don't know if there's any scientific basis behind using a divining rod to find water. It just sounds a little goofy to me.

Dowsing for water is definitely for real. My Great Grandfather usedto do it on the farm drilling for wells. He drilled something like 14 wells. The strangest thing is that the dowsing rod would tell him exactly how many feet down the water was... by moving up and down to tell the feet... left and right when it hits the bottom... etc. It's very simple to use. There's definitely a scientific explanation behind it that hasn't been understood yet.

The dowsing rod was just a coat hanger... bent to have a circle at the top, held with two hands at the other end. It has nothing to do with witches...  ::smile::

After my Grandpa died... my parents convinced my Great Grandma(Who lived until 102) that He left Her and them some "power" to be able to do this.  ::smile:: So my Grandma pulled out a map of wells that hadn't been dug, yet were checked by my great grandfather and it was written down on the map. My parents accurately told my Grandma the depth of the water for the 9 wells that hadn't been dug. My Grandma also tried Herself and it worked and made Her cry, since She didn't believe it would work for Her since it never did when my Grandpa was alive.

With this method you let the dowsing rod move by itself... I've never seen the method described in the fox news video, no doubt it works too though.  ::smile::

Of course I'm not going to like it. Anyone who truly loves God would find this saddening that society is depending on occultic methods to prosper rather than turn to God.

OK J Man, what is God's approved method for detecting underground water sources?

Howdyboyalan

I watched a clever little experiment on these, that basically said it came down to chance whether or not you could use it to find any :(

Howdyboyalan

They had people stand on a suspended platform, and they had an opawue lining beneath the platform with buckets that had water in, and some didnt. The people had to find their way to the water filled buckets. 1/6 people got it right.

OneLung

When I had a well drilled on my property in the Arizona desert, the drilling company had a chart of where the water was located and how deep it was. I don't know where the chart came from.

What West Texan worth his salt doesn't have a pair of metal divining rods behind the seat in the truck?

Marc, my grandfather had two metal rods (called "divining rods," but he didn't like that name).  When you found water they would move (I can't remember if it was together or apart...it's been nearly 30 years) on their own, symmetrically.  I could use them accurately, didn't seem to be any "skill" or "gift" to that I could see.  He believed it was all simply a matter of magnetic fields.

They all claimed to have the gift, and they were allowed to bring their own rods with them. If was quite funny to see their various excuses when they got it wrong, and the elation of the 4 people who did get it right.

marc

I have no real idea about how it works--or doesn't, which is why I haven't tried to use this in any way that would cost people money.  I do know a man who seems to have complete success doing this, but I don't know why.

Nevertheless

Not too many years ago I watched one of our city employees dowsing to locate underground waterlines before some excavation work was done. He was the official waterline locator.

Probably Salt River Project.  I used to work in water services there, and they have a groundwater department that keeps tabs on that all over the valley and the eastern half of the state.

Although, as far north as you are, it may be something contracted by the CAP.

Not that you really cared, mind you, but why not?

Ah...you primitive...primitive people.. ::frown::..you must think the earth is flat and still the center of the solar system...and try to burn anyone that says otherwise... rofl....just kidding, OK?... ::noworries::

Anyways:
{Albert Einstein, however, was convinced of the authenticity of water dowsing. He said, "I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time."}-- Albert Einstein.

Unfortunately, Albert was still trying to find the Unified Theory at the time.  If only he was aware of the theory of "Everything" which is also known as the String theory.  This theory not only explains how "water witching" works, but it can explain what occurred before the "Big Bang" also... ::smile::  In other words, it can explain God ::clappingoverhead::.

:onhorse: Here we go:

A central concept to String theory is that the smallest components of matter are small bits of energy vibrating like the strings on a violin. These vibrations form a cosmic symphony which is at the heart of all reality. In the same way as a violin can produce many variation of musical notes, these strings, vibrating at different frequencies, form all the fundamental particles of the reality we observe.  Some have concluded that these "energy vibrations"  are what we know of as "thought".

So when God said he is the alpha and omega, he wasn't kidding... ::pondering::

God thought the Universe into existence, so everything is God's thoughts, or as we like to call God's will.  So when we say we feel God with us...we really do cause everything is God ::smile::

Jesus says we must live by faith, that faith is the most important thing there is.  Don't you see, Jesus was trying to explain the String Theory so to speak ::noworries::, cause faith is pure thought, a belief.  Jesus says that you can move mountains with your faith, with your beliefs; which really meant you can do anything you want once you have complete, and utter faith in God, because it is God's thought that is everything and when we have complete faith in him, than our thoughts are also completely with him also.

You know when people say to think positive, or if you believe in something hard enough it will happen, or what goes around comes around (karma), String theory says it is not just foolishness but it actually is true.

Holy smokes, String Theory explains faith... ::shrug::

String theory is the only scientific theory that can confirm everything spoken of in the bible.  It explains miracles, how Moses split the sea... the power of prayer ::prayinghard::.

Therefore, as you can see this theory can explain many things, including psychics, remote viewers, clairvoyance, how Buddhists can achieve Nirvana, and even water witching...everything.

String theory will be the ultimate theory of the future that will merge science, physics and spirituality (which some call the paranormal), into one.

You will see what I mean once you give it some "thought"    rofl

{I can't but see the significance of Heb 1:3 speaking of Christ

Good grief wordman, not only was that post completely off topic, but completely innacurate.

1: String theory is on the ropes at the moment, there is simply not enough evidence, and there i a lot of evidence going the other way

2: No one has ever claimed string theory is some kind of cosmic karma inducing balance thing

Um...that depends on who you talked too.   I suggest you research it more.

I gave credit where credit was due:

Many scientists do agree with what I posted because most of the information came from them, including Michio Kaku, one of the greatest physicists of our time.  Go read his book "Beyond Einstein"

If you give it some thought and research, you will see that String theory, if real, can explain and do exactly what I posted.   Why do you suppose it is called "the Theory of Everything"?

Don't forget that General Relativity was laughed at and mocked when Einstein first introduce it.  He was even more ridiculed when he talked about the distortions of space and time and it's relativity to speed, which all have now been proven correct.

Many scientists are opposed to String Theory  because of its unconventional, and radical ways of thinking.  I suspect they are the same scientists that will mock you when you bring up Jesus Christ being the son of God.

And it was not off topic. I explained "water witching" and how it relates to God via String theory... ::tippinghat::

Also when you say
Quote...but completely innacurate.

DCR

There's actually something to this...

I'm as cynical as anyone and even mock what I see as superstition, but my cousin showed this to me, and I do believe it has to do with magnetism in the presence of something underground, and not any kind of witchcraft or anything like that.

We did it with metal surveyor flag sticks.  I have a couple of flags he let me have, and I could show anyone what it does.  Basically, you bend the metal sticks on the ends at a 90 degree angle just enough to hold both of them.  Hold the metal sticks straight out and walk.

I'm serious as I can be... when you walk over certain places in the ground (holding the sticks very loosely so they can move about freely), the sticks turn inward.  When you walk past a water source, they'll be drawn toward it.  I even tried it in the house, and they did the same when walking over plumbing under the floor.

But, it's just some scientific curiosity though... not any kind of voodoo.  ::wink::

fanuvmxpx

This could very well have some physics/energy ramifications. I've never done it myself, so all I can say is "could be possible".

Wordman, I believe that God's energy is everywhere...keeping everything alive through His power. Do you really believe that everything IS God or that His power is everywhere?

I'm not saying your statement is wrong, just curious. I just differentiate from not saying "that tree is God" but rather "that tree exists & is alive because of God".

You are quite possibly, and exactly right.

I don't think current science can understand it because it is using the wrong kind of physics.

Check out James Clerk Maxwell and hyper-dimensional-physics, it all fits with the String theory model.

It talks all about matter, energy, and the magnetic fields and how it relates to consciousness.

In short, the {use of Maxwell's quaternions (ordered pairs of complex numbers), who made it clear in his writings that his choice of quaternions as mathematical operators was predicated on his belief that three-dimensional physical phenomena -- including quite possibly human Consciousness -- was dependent upon higher dimensional realities! --by Richard Hoagland}.

Our thoughts are a form of energy (science is currently looking more into this claim), but if it is true, than the electro-magnetic-field affects us, and vise-versa.

That would explain water witching and all sorts of other so-called paranormal activities.

T.O.E. will one day be the "theory to end all theories".  ::clappingoverhead:: ::clappingoverhead::

QuoteDo you really believe that everything IS God or that His power is everywhere?

I believe God is both.  He is everything, and he is everywhere.  Everything that exist is the will of God, or better known as God's will ::smile::.

String theory postulates that the very substance that makes up the universe is vibrating strings.  Which some have concluded is the resonates of God's will.  It sounds crazy, until you actually take a look at the whole of the theory... ::pondering::

God's method is to trust in Him and pray. The Word of God says that God will suply all our needs according to His riches and glory(Pilippians4:19). Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you(Matthew6:33). His Word doesn't lie. If you live for the Kingdom of God and are servign theLord, He will never let you down. He will provide all your needs. A armers has a need for water. God would provide if the trust in HIm. He would never let His servants down.

The problem is, they are trusting in witchcraft! They are trusting in methods that take supernatural power to do, but God gets no glory for it. That is the work of the adversary.

There is no way that a stick can be used to find water 800 ft underground without supernatural help. You say it is a gift from God? God sure doesn't get any glory and acknowledgment out of this. Watching the video, I don't recall anyone giving Glory to Jesus Christ for this provision. Also, it was mentioned to be witchcraft. If you read what God says about witchcraft in His Word, then you will know He will have no part in "witchcraft."

Maybe if you read the rest of the board you would have seen that it is due to the electromagnetic field (which by the way GOD created not witches).  That farmer may not give him glory But I am sure many do.  GOD created many ways that do not involve us sitting on our butts.  HE wants us to work also.   And this is a way of doing it without artificial means but by the means that GOD has laid down upon men.
