I do believe that the unforgivable sin would be marked by characteristics. I see that we're having fun mocking others, but the topic is serious enough for consideration.

1stly, the sin is what Jesus said it is: blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. I do not think you can merely put it down to not believing in Jesus Christ, although that puts you outside eternal life.

I quickly find 2 people in Scripture who "found no place of repentance, though they sought it with tears". Esau, and Judas. Esau sold his birthright, and Judas betrayed Jesus. I think that would be a characteristic of one who had blasphemed the Holy Ghost. I think it would be so because God would refuse to hear them, and they would know of it.

Tell me, what is the "sin unto death" that John writes of [1 John 5:16]? We have an example of someone sinning unto death in Ananias & Sapphira, and Peter said they lied to the Holy Ghost. This happened in the church, not in the old covenant.

I think we would take a lot more care of what we say, if we took these things seriously. Look at the posts above. We've had a lot of fun mocking this thing, but did you stop to think that someone unlearned, and unsuspecting may come here and go away really believing that the suggestions mockingly made here are true? What have we taught them?

Happier is the man who sits not in the seat of the mockers.

Amen, and lets separate unrepentance from unforgivable sin-  Jesus said whoever does not believe in Him and that God sent Him to die for our sins cannot enter in His kingdom, that is separate from the unforgivable sin, which He felt necessary to speak of apart from just unbelief.

Scripture says God is not that He would lie, so if He deemed it necessary to speak of an unforgivable sin apart from not having salvation due to unbelief then I would believe that they are two completely different things.  Cursing The Holy Spirit whom Jesus sent as our guide and helper to salvation and the gifts of God is quite different then just not believing in Jesus, yes both lead to death but with one there is no chance of salvation with the other there is every chance so long as you believe and repent!

Also, as an aside regarding the posts about murder-  All of them Moses, David and Paul turned from this sin which they committed and received God's forgiveness- but none of them ever blasphemed or cursed God Himself!

Actually Paul was also a blasphemer before his conversion.

Yes, you are right, there is a difference.

I think this also goes along with what is being said...   47 "The servant who knows the master's will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows.

See there is a difference when we KNOW. That is what can save us or condemn us. If we know the truth about God and deny it before men we may suffer condemnation

And to add to that is the fact that Paul was a Pharisee himself but what was different was that he didn't know or believe when he fought against christians.

The context around those scriptures she posted is that the Pharisees had said that Jesus did his miracles by Satan (Beelzebub).

Why the sin was unforgivable is that the Pharisees KNEW that Jesus was the heir. They KNEW he was the Son. Their pride and their position caused them to deny so that they would still keep their place in front of everyone and be looked up to.

It still happens today too, obviously. Leaders lie to protect their positions all the time, including people in the church. They get so used to being looked up to they try to cover their faults so they can still be in charge. Scripture says Pride leads to destruction.

Here is a parable that shows they KNEW he was the heir...

1He then began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey. 2At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.

6"He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, 'They will respect my son.'

7"But the tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' 8So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

And this next scripture goes with it

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

41 Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

I totally agree with this poster.  It is a WILLFULL denial of what they know to be of God.  This is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Also willfully accepting the number of the beast.

Isn't that going to church on Sunday and not keeping the Sabbath?

Close! It's not the number of the beast, it's the Mark of the Beast.

Well sorry I said number because the mark is a number.

I just don't understand how someone can't be forgiven for anything if they turn and change their ways. Unless the unforgivable sin is continuing in your ways until death.

volsfan1

that would basically mean if someone committed an unforgivable in in some of your contexts what would be the point of trying anymore. I'm taking some of your posts to mean you do something once and that's it. I read something on the internet that was describing it as a continuous thing. I would take that to mean rejecting him until you die therefor not being an easy thing to commit. I also think anyone could be forgiven as long as they change their ways. Just like I said about someone who worshipped the devil. I would even think something like that could be forgiven if they change and truly ask for forgiveness.

Both of your posts are correct, volsfan.  Don't let people steer you off.

To worship the devil is to make him your father.  Once you have done that, there is no return.  Cain was of that wicked one and Cain was the first murderer - I John 3:12 - 15

Also read John 8:39 - 44 and remember that Jesus was speaking to Jews.

volsfan1

mystery man you could be right but I can't wrap my head around an unforgivable sin. Worshipping the devil would be bad. But I've always thought that even if someone did that at one point and really prayed to the devil and worshipped him that he could be forgiven if his heart was right and he truly turned away from his ways.

there r people having problem wth blasphemous thoughts against God eventually towards the Holy Spirit. I am one of those people, i just cldn't control the thoughts one day they were towards the Holy Spirit. Immediately i felt something droping on my head and believe u me my life has been a struggle ever since till to this day. I feel disconected to God, I am so hopeless. I go to church and wish so much to feel God's presence it doesnt happen. The only thing i have it is His word, i belive every single thing it says, i believe that Jesus came here on earth to die for my sins, I believe that God raised Him from the dead. I believe He is sitted at the right hand of God interceding and pleading wth Him for us. I still go to church, i read my bible, pray, confess the word of God but the is no electricity inside me, it sounds as if it is just words. Sometimes i feel like God doesnt love me but i know it is a lie for He has loved me with an everlasting love(Jer 31:2) .I am scared i might have commited this sin which is eternal, but i know that principalities, angels, death, life will never separate me from His love but i don't have the assurence the of salvation. I feel so empty and dry in the inside. I am married, 33 yrs old and bcos of how i feel and what i think abt the possibility of having commited this sin, i don't have any desire whatsoever to have kids. i feel a person is more safe not to be born at all bcos in this world there are so many trials and tribulations, it hurts, it frustrates, at times i wish i was never born, if it was possible i wld dismis myself. But He is God, sitted in His throne. Before Him no God was formed nor there shall be any other God after Him. Sometimes I become so scared of God. Is this life guys ??????????
