Budgets have little to do with acting, the actors that they got did not act very well.  Mind you budget could be the reason, but they had to have auditions right!  The script did not have anything to do with the budget.  I have watched 100s of independent films and this pails in comparison on numerous levels.  If they were trying to make a feel good Christiany movie with little relevance to the true life, with, in my personal opinion very little relevance to the secular world (in other words this movie will have little effect on the unsaved) than that is what they got.  What was their budget?

Budgets have EVERYTHING do to with ACTORS... do you suppose that Leonardo or Brad would have done this movie... or been as believable in it as Cameron?   It would cost millions to get them for this movie and I would no more believe them in the part than the man in the moon.

Not only was I impressed with the actors.  I also feel their next movie will be just as great if not better.

It is an outstanding movie. Even being "overtly Christian" (God forbid) I cried many times in it. One would have to be a complete dolt not to be impacted.

Mel Gibson's Passion of Christ was also proof that we can do better than Hollywood with equivalent money.

My husband and I saw it and enjoyed it. It's made by the same brothers who did Flywheel and Facing the Giants. This is a church in Georgia, I believe, so all the actors are volunteers. Kirk was the only professional. Is it a hollywood blockbuster? No, but most of those have all the bells and whistles but no message. This is a valiant effort by a church to reach as many people as possible with a Christian message and I think if someone is searching for God, they'll see beyond the amateurism.

Haven't been around in while...

I can honestly say that Fireproof was a turning point in our marriage. I believe with all my heart that it saved our relationship.

It was DH's idea to see it - I hadn't even heard of it. Some of the argument scenes gave me chills, because it was almost word-for-word how our fights play out. We both saw ourselves in the movie, and it was unreal how much DH changed afterward. He is more tender, more patient, and just a completely different person.

Yeah, the acting wasn't the best - though I thought Cameron was incredibly good in it. Yeah, it was low-budget... but I couldn't be more thankful that this movie was made. It was exactly what we needed to see.

Jaime

Thanks for sharing Manda. Good to hear from ya!

DH cried in the movie, am I right?

Jaime, he tried really hard to act all macho, but I know a tear or two still managed to escape.

Me, on the other hand - every time I watch it, I cry a little more. It reduces me to a blubbering mess. LOL

I cried more than I ever did in a movie. Also, I looked over to a guy a couple of people over from me and at the end, he had his head in his hands and boo hooing out loud. And he was a pretty tough looking dude.

Powerful stuff.

Waiting for this in my Netflix queue.

I was stunned and bothered by how much of me I saw in the lead character. I kept pausing the movie to apologize to my wife and tell her that I wanted to be a better man. She kept saying, "Just let me watch the movie, we can talk later!" :)

I thought 'Fly wheel' and 'Facing the Giants' were better but 'Fireproof' was good and dealt with hard issues. They are low budget, see through message etc. but I believe that they are impacting society even so. Probably speak more to Christians than non but Christians need to get serious about the holiness of God so I am okay with that.

Darlene... there is nothing wrong with that... IMHO... the Christians NEED a good talking to.

MegaJedi

The movie may have been low budget, but the message was not.

Well, said.

Got the movie from NetFlix last week. Awful preachy. It might be OK for a Christian audience (like most of us here) but most non-church goers would pick at the bad acting. Even though my wife and I have never had any problems (unless I am too slow to catch on) I kept feeling like I should apologize to her for something. She assured me we are fine but thought the neighbors should watch it.

I rather enjoyed the movie! ANd I love the ending- where they re-marry and kiss--- he's really kissing his honest to God, wife. ... not the actress... What a way to stay faithful!!

Fly wheel and Facing the Giants were really good but I think Fireproof is a landmark film for a Christian movie about marriage.

Every couple should see it at least once!

God really used Kirk on this one. Makes me feel like he was just finding his way in the Way of the Master series, although that is a laudable effort.
But in Fireproof he really found his voice
