My wife shared this with me and I found it very interesting. We will see how this pans out.

There is a figure somewhere that this, combined with anti viral drugs could wipe out HIV within 30 years, and would only cost 1/2 of the annual US military budget.

Not doing stuff that spreads AIDs works well, too.  Some folks just don't get teaching, though.  I heard a story a good many years ago that some addicts were sharing a needle.  When it was pointed out to them that AIDs could be spread that way, they said they knew that so all of them were wearing condoms.

It really should go without saying that abstinance from all sexual activity outside marriage is a MUST in the war against HIV/AIDS.  It is, of course, to be assumed that a man and woman marrying have had a full batery of blood panels to be sure that neither is carrying AIDS or any other sexually-transmissable infection.  And of course, sex out of wedlock is heavily frowned on in scripture.

Jon-Marc

The way to avoid Aids is not to use needles that have been used by others, don't have a blood transfusion, and don't have promiscuous sex--especially homosexual sex. I had a blood transfusion in 1985, and I seem to be OK--thank God. The rest I've never done.

Ewigkeit

Jon Marc has generAlly hit the nail on the head.  For one thing, promiscuous sex is fool-hardy, not only with regard to AIDS, but also to a host of venerial diseases, most of which can have some very undesirable results.  As for homosexual sex, getting a urinating appendage into someone's rectum means contamination with feces if nothing else...and that alone is a wonderful way to pick up more pathogens than Carter's has pills.  Blood transfusions may be necessary on occasion; but one should be sure he knows and trusts the source of blood to be used.  Re-use of needles is also a very stupid thing to do, and a wonderful route to more diseases than the sands on the seashore (if that's possible).  In short, be chaste, know where administered blood comes from when needed, don't use needles at all except as prescribed by your physician, and above all, acquire and apply good hygiene habits.  Do those thigs, and you'll not get AIDS.

Mere Nick

Every once and while I donate blood.  Need to do it soon, actually.  But at the Red Cross you are given a long questionaire that asks about sexual activity, where you've lived, what you've eaten, recent tattoos, and a whole host of other things because AIDs isn't the only thing that can be spread via blood.  The folks at Red Cross tell me they do test donations for AIDs.

Jon-Marc

I got herpes from my first wife who was giving herself to any man who would have her. Talk about PAINFUL! Some pill that cost over $50 for 5 of them and a cream ointment took care of it, and I've only had the one experience with it. I found out that it can stay dormant for 30 YEARS! That's what mine did.

There's an old (and I think pretty wise) saying to the effect that VD is the "gift that kekeps on giving".

OneLung

I read a study years ago that claimed you were five times more likely to get an STD from a cheating housewife, then from a professional prostitute. I assume they didn't include drug addicts as professionals.

mandalee65

If I'm not mistaken, all donated blood is tested for HIV, anyway - at least in the U. S. I don't think that holds true for the rest of the world.

Bizarre. I wonder if they talked about how many get VDs from cheating husbands?

Ewigkeit

Cheating husbands are a wonderful source of VDs.  As for professional prostitutes, in Holland where they're legal, they are monitored and regulated by the government to ensure their cleanliness.  That's far more than can be said for the drug addicts running around this country.

Mere Nick

Someone we knew found out her husband was riding dirty when the doctor told her she had some sort of vd.  A friend of my mom's found out her husband was practicing buggery on the side when she found out she had AIDs.

Ewigkeit

My wife's paternal grandmother caught her husband "cheating", so she dressed up to look like him, enticed the woman with whom he had been having an affair, and shoved a corn cob dipped in turpentine into her genital.  I think you can figure out what the result was.
