I believe in building a strong relationship through church because it always starts there first. If a couple can be strong and make it with god then they can make it through anything. I just dont know if there is really a man out there that is serious about the journey to heaven and trying to live a christian life. As of right now im just looking for a friend of the opposite sex, someone that can stimulate my mind and maybe teach me something i dont know.

OK...but you are likely going to have to go outside of the SDA church to find such a man.

Demographic profiles do suggest that this is going to be neccesary. I'll let you come to your own conclusions as to the why.

Statistics show the what...not the why every time. And the "what" you are looking for isn't going to be found inside of the SDA church.

Just a note --- be careful saying "I need a man who..."

You (we) don't "need" anyone, my sister. :)

You (we) may want or would prefer to be with a particular man or type of guy.

See what I mean ---that "need" can be an insidious falsehood that takes root in the Christian's mind.

Just wanted to help. No offense intended.

Take care,
Elaine

You need to let God decide what you need.  If he wants to bring you a man in the SDA church, He will.  If He wants to bring you a man who has never even heard of the SDA church, He will.

While I love the Seventh-day Adventist church, and the perspective on the Bible and life that we preach, I'm sad to say that too many of us (including myself) grew up inside the "Adventist bubble" and think we are the only fish in the pond.  While I believe that our doctrine is the closest to God's will for Christianity today, I would not be surprised if our church contained a lower percentage of people who are actually ready for Heaven than many other churches with more skewed doctrines.

With this in mind, don't worry about whether or not your man is a Loma-Linda eating, teetotaling, Ellen White reading Adventist, focus on God's will for your life and let Him choose what kind of a man you need.

How can you say that what she is looking for won't be found in the SDA church?

My previous post said that she needed to open her mind up to other possibilities and let God choose, but on the flip side of the coin, she may very well need a good Adventist man.  Inter-faith relationships can workl, but they often are very hard and end up failing totally.  Finding someone with conflicting beliefs could be a really bad idea if she wants a healthy relationship.

Ashley, my advice is let God find you someone.  Keep an open mind, while sticking to your beliefs and putting God first.

It is going to be what she wants most.

A denomination of very narrow minded and short sided beliefs

Or

A husband with common sense, wisdom, and leadership ability.

both are choices...both have different results.

There are plenty of men apart from the SDA church.  There are likely fewer that a part of the SDA church.  Pray you find the right man for the right reason at the right time.

To misquote Gloria Steinem, a woman needs a man like a fish needs oxygen.

See, a fish needs oxygen, but it needs to be delivered in a way that is best for the fish.  You wouldn't help the fish by sitting it in the pew next to you at church or taking it for a ride in a grocery cart at the store.

I'm married, it's great to be married, I (usually) enjoy it.  However, the things I really need in life, the Lord can make sure I get, whether I find them in marriage or not.

So you are saying that Seventh-day Adventist men are narrow minded and short [sighted]?

Quite agree with you Elain.  The only one human beings need in our lives is God.  Anything we need above God the Almighty becomes our god.
Ashleythomas, you should put your request to God directly, illustrating that you NEED Him in your life, and He will put the person you are looking for in your way - inside or outside the SDA church.

I personally believe, if you are of God,  you shoud be looking for a true man of God, not a man from the SDA.   Be mindful that. yes, God could give you an SDA man who, by the way might not be of God.  That would be fine, if you also are not of God - He would have given you your match!   But if you are of God, you most definitely deserve, and should be looking for a man of God, not a church goer.

I hope this helps to put you in the right direction.
