Study Says Approaching Beautiful Women Extremely Stressful for Men

Study: Men Approaching Beautiful Women As Stressful As Jumping From Plane

MEN who spend a mere five minutes trying to attract a beautiful woman can suffer so much stress that it damages their hearts, studies suggest.

And for men trying to get a beautiful stranger they view as out of their league, the risks are even higher - with cortisol levels rising so high that heart attacks and strokes become real possibilities, even if a date does not.

British newspaper The Mail on Sunday reported that the stress suffered by many would-be Romeos can be the equivalent of jumping from a plane.

The study, conducted by researchers at Spain's University of Valencia, involved 84 male students - who each paid £10 ($16) to take part.

Each man's cortisol level was measured before being left alone with an attractive but previously unknown woman, and then again after.

"In this study, we considered that for most men the presence of an attractive woman may induce the perception that there is an opportunity for courtship," the researchers said.

"This study showed that male cortisol levels increased after exposure to a five-minute, short social contact with a young attractive woman. It provides evidence that interpersonal interaction can influence the secretion of cortisol." Source

I have a solution. Go and talk to the normal nice average looking girls then, who, after all, make up most of the female population anyway. Wont be so stressful.

This may be true.  My son is very handsome and nice.  But, he shy's away from talking to beautiful girls.  I personally encourage him to step out and talk to them and to be himself with them.  He is attracted to beautiful women, I see no reason why he should not seek to find a mate he finds beautiful.

He has found that when he does, they were wishing he would all along.  ;-)

Interesting research.  I wonder if... if talking to beautiful girls is so stressful for males, does this mean they wold be more likely to talk to average looking girls?  I realize that the research didn't cover that aspect.  I just thought it might be curious to examine in light of this study.

MY son is exactly the same. very good looking and really nice but so terribly shy of attractive women. His lovely fiance who is pretty as well as really nice, he met on a Christian dating site. He had 30 contacts, but knew that God wanted him to reply to her.

I dont think the same is true of women approaching good looking men, in fact they are sometimes very arrogant if they are overly aware of their looks, and that puts me OFF straight away.I think that for women, different things attract as well as looks.

   ALL WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL !!!

Bless you Walker starr, you are a real gentleman.
We women are under such pressure these days to have to look a certian way, loose weight, stop wrinkles, stay young looking, be a certain shape, have plastic surgery etc etc etc and many of us feel we arent ever going to be 'good enough', but of course the outward appearance isnt actually important and certainly isnt an indication of how our lives will be. In fact the most attractive people seem to have the worst lives and be unhappy.
Physical beauty is fleeting and vain the Bible says and that is so true.  Maybe these guys whose stress levels are so incredibly high when they speak to an attractive woman (and I find that quite amazing actually that it is as high as if they are going to jump out of a plane?????) need to remember that. Those women too will have wrinkles and saggy bits and grey hair one day and may well put on some weight as most of us do these days.

I believe the study. I'm a shy type to begin with.

But, anymore "beautiful" has different definitions for me. I think it needs to be an attractiveness that encompasses everything about the woman to make me as nervous as jumping out of an airplane. I don't believe one size fits all. Inner beauty weighs a whole lot more than when I was a teenager.

Since I am older and hopefully wiser, being around women who are seeking that type of a reaction, turns me off. I strive to no longer give them any space in my mind. I'm mostly successful.

Believe me, if it were the other way round, NO man would ever make me feel even 1% as nervous and stressed as jumping out of an aeroplane ::frown::. If it is that bad for a guy then why do they do it? Stick to speaking to a girl who you can feel relaxed around and not stressed.

Now see...there is several things at work here.

The most common personality demographic that posts the majority of material on discussion forums is the introvert and not the extrovert. (I always seem to be the exception to the rule)

There is a very pretty woman in my small group bible study class. She always has perfect hair, makeup and matching cute outfits on. She is practically the definition of demure. (and single and available)

BUT...at the same time there is absolutely nothing I share in common with her other than Jesus. So...I really don't say much to her at all. Approaching her is not an issue at all. No nervousness or anything.

However...there are a couple of others in the group that are no where near as demure as she is or as pretty that I do love their sense of humor or other little things that we share common interests in. They have boyfriends though...or fiancée or something.  I don't want to date any of them in reality...I just don't...no one there is within my tastes...

Trust me on this one...when I do meet someone with the personality that falls within my tastes...what she looks like will NOT be something that keeps me away from her or make me shy about approaching her. There is always the thrill of the hunt...and you either love it or not.

Do you know, I have come to the conclusion that being very attractive isnt always good for a marriage or relationship. We have had a few high profile cases here in the UK recently where one half of a celebrity couple has had an affair, (as with the Tiger woods case I guess)and their spouse has been extreemly pretty, sexy, attractive or whatever you call it. It just seems that looks alone are NEVER enough and they arent what keeps a relationship strong.
I know a lady, now divorced, who was married to a very good looking man. He always had women after him and had several affairs. Now if he had been more average looking the temptations would have been far less. The same follows with a very attractive women, she will have men after her and interested in her whether she is married or not and that can cause all sorts of problems.

I found it interesting John when you said about your fellowship group. The one woman who is very pretty and dresses in a cute way, is single, wheras the 2 who are not so attractive, but have more of a character and sense of humour both have a guy. Now that says to me that looks alone are never enough.

JohnDB

She has personality and character...

and a very pleasant one in fact. Nothing about the lady is offensive or uninteresting. She does have a sense of humor and is pleasant to hang out with. She would make someone a very wonderful wife someday. She can cook and sew and be very domestic.

BUT

I have nothing in common with her.  I am rather wild at heart and she is tame. I am very adventurous and her idea of a new adventure is checking out a new mall to see what stores are in it. I am an extrovert and she is rather introverted.

My idea of a lousy taste combination that I like to eat is oats in my meatloaf...her's is cocoa and grilled cheese sandwiches.

BIG, whopper differences in personality and traits that would be a disaster if forced to be close to each other. She would be miserable and so would I trying to keep her happy...it just isn't in me and I doubt it would be in her either.

Nothing is wrong with her at all like you are suggesting. If anything there is more wrong with me than her any and every day of the week.

Didnt say there was anything wrong with her, that was just the impression that what you said gave me.

If a man is stressing about approaching a beautiful woman, this could be because he is being selfish, wanting a woman who is beautiful, and so he is judging her by what she looks like, when Jesus says, "'Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.'" (John 7:24) God could be rebuking and resisting and convicting his Satanic spirit, so that this evil spirit of *judging* is getting nervous and stressed. This is judgmental loving, that has him picking and choosing who he will love.

Another man might feel she is someone superior to him, since she is so beautiful. So, he could have an inferiority complex witch comes with judging by comparing outward looks. Again, this is of Satan's spirit of the evil sort of knowledge of good and evil, witch comes with how Satan's spirit has us judging what is good and evil, supposing outward beauty is better while not so "good" looks is somehow bad and inferior. So, by evaluating her like that, he is in the condemnation of the fall of Adam and Eve, and there is certainly stress in this.

So, I'd say the men tested were worldly men. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." (1 John 4:18) Satan's kingdom is full of judgmental loving, in witch ones are picking and choosing who they consider to be good enough to love and worth their love and attention. And they judge by their knowledge of good and evil, witch is so spiritually perverted to have them looking at what they consider to be *outward*ly good or bad, like how much beauty or how much money or how much of a charm act a person has.

Hot Ice

I can't agree that all women are beautiful.  All women CAN be beautiful, to a degree, if they take care of the temple God gave them to take care of.  All women CAN have irresistible inner beauty, if they are listening to and yielding to the Holy Spirit.

To say that all women are inherently beautiful wins a lot of points in acceptance among female masses, but is just NOT true.

To approach a physically beautiful woman CAN be stressful, for sure.  But it isn't ALWAYS the case.

4Jesus

I get flustered when good looking men are ordering on the counter at work.  Most people are "average" in the looks department, but every once in a while, there is that one, who just has such handsome features, and he is usally dressed really nice as well...and I do feel nervous.  Not in regards to approaching him, as I am not the type of gal to "approach" a guy, since I am a strong believer in letting the guy pursue me.  I remind myself, though, that he might not be a nice person at all...as we know that real beauty comes from having a strong relationship with Jesus.  The man who is beautiful to me is the one described in Psalm 112, and this is the man I pray that I can marry when and if I marry.

If this study is true, then I wont live past 30.   ::noworries::

During my college years I worked at Abercrombie and Fitch, so I was used to dealing with many attractive women on a daily basis, and let me tell you it is stressful.  That job gave me so much extra anxiety, I couldnt wait to leave, and I still avoid shopping malls for this same reason.

Hot Ice to quote a former president It all depends on what IT is.
When you look for beauty are you lookinging for T & A ?  Or are
you looking as GOD does and seeing the whole WOMAN?
  THINK ABOUT IT.
