Diabetes and Gluten Free diet?

I have type 2 diabetes and take medication, diet, and excersize and have lost 35 pounds . I have looking on the internet to find out about the gluten free diet and if it could help diabetics. Any help would be appreciated. ::tippinghat::

Wikipedia can be a good basic source, though strongly medical info. needs to be corroborated by a doctor.

Doctors have no idea how to cure diabetes.  I'd take their advice with a grain of salt..... sea salt.

I dont know about gluten free diet but my husband was diagnoseed about 6 weeks ago.Pretty severe his fasing blood sugar was 350 and his vision was severely impaired already.They said he was going into diabetic shock already.

They put him on two medications and I went scrambling till I almost went insane on what not to eat but more importantly what CAN you eat!

Anyway he radically changed his eating habits by that I mean he used to skip breakfast and every singel day he ate some sort of fast food for lunch.And at home he has a major sweet tooth and by that I mean evne in the middle of teh night he woud get up and eat apple pies(those ones you by in the store individually packaged) and brownies..etc...

Now he completely cut out the fast food..He eats breakfast every morning like scrambled eggs or oatmeal..and he eats healty snack in between that in lunch like almonds or a piece of fruit..For lunch a sandwich on whole what with turky or or beef pastrami and a spring mix salad that he adds veggies like red and yellow bell pepper too and for dinner he the same.Something good in protein like fish and broccolli ..or chicken breast sauteued in tomataos and another salad etc..He also eats beans (lugumes) like black beans and red beans and black eyed peas.He stays away from pasta and all the sweet stuff and white bread.(and of course sugar.

Pretty basic simple "whole foods" diet..

Well in a month he went back to the doc and his fasting blood sugar was below 100..he had lost 4 lbs(without excersizing) and his vision had returned completely back to normal.

I definately dont think gluten free coudl hurt.Probably nobody should eat it at least in the amounts we seem to .But my husband hasnt specifically avoided it..Having said that  most of the food he eats as I mentioned are "whole" and dont contain it in the first place.

My husband, although slim and eating healthily and exercising a lot, was disgnosed with diabetes about a year ago. The medication that he was put on made him feel tired and drained so he has now got a book called 'The Diabetes Diet' by Richard K Bernstein MD and he follows that.It is pretty strict, there are even some veges that you have to avoid such as carrots, peas and orange peppers, but he is completely medication free and his blood sugar levels are really good.
It is quite restricting, but if you want to stay off drugs, it may well be the answer

As someone who was diagnosed with diabetes 2 four years ago at age 60, I had to learn to cook, bake, and eat all over again. The hardest thing for me was to give up all the sweets I loved, but I forced myself. I haven't given up sweets; I just use Splenda instead of sugar.

I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol and had to cut way down on salt and fat. That was equally difficult for me. Now I can't stand high fat, salt, or sugar. I do occasionally have a candy bar, though. Everything stays down at an acceptable level, but I am on meds for cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes.
