Hi to all , and Heb 6 has and will be a bone of contention until we are die .

Here Paul is saying Therefore  APHIEMI / LEAVING  the principles of the  doctrine  of Christ ,  let us go on unto perfection ,

#1 , not laying again the foundation of Repentance from dead works !

#2 , and of faith toward God !

#3 , and here in verse 2 , forsake/leave  , the Doctrine/ Teaching  , of Baptism !

#4 , Forsake the laying on of hands !!

#5 , forsake the Resurrection of the dead !

#6 , and forsake the teaching of  Eternal Judgment ??

Is this speaking to the Body of Christ ?

Is it speaking to the Jewish Assembly ??

  Are there Christians here ??

What does go on unto perfection means ?

Hebrews 6:1 enumerates several doctrines that are foundational to Christianity that are no longer in debate:

1 Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance to maturity, without laying the foundation all over again: repentance from dead works and faith in God,
2 instruction about baptisms and laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.

1. We must repent from dead works of the Old Covenant.
2. Faith in God needed, yes.
3. Baptism is a simple teaching, no more need to talk about it.  The same goes for laying on of hands, the resurrection of the death, and the fact that there will be a judgement.

So the groundwork has been laid and now we can advance to Christian maturity and not waste time debating/discussing these things any more.  So the verse is not saying that we must repent of all of these things, only that we must repent from dead works of the Old Covenant, such as ritual cleanliness laws and other ways that the Jews made themselves Holy.  Now we rely on Jesus to make us Holy, through faith, baptism, laying on of hands, unto our judgment and resurrection.

Hi Catholica , and are you saying that those teaching in Heb 6:1-2 , are not in operation today , a starter , question ?

Well, it seems that it is necessary now to re-educate people about these doctrines which were once considered foundational, because with recent theology people have questioned these foundations which have always been held and in many cases altered them.  This verse is a good reason to study what the early Christians believed about these things so that we don't waste time arguing about them.  Also there are a lot of judaizers about today, so I guess in all facets the verse still applies today.

Hi Cathohica , and  you know that I disagree  with your theology  as I am A  Dispensationalist and that the OT  and what they call the 4 Gospels are written to Israel , along with it baptism , healings , tongues were primarily given to Israel and what I write next is amusing to me .
