I ordered this from Amazon back in the spring and forgot about it. I ran across it last week and started reading it today. This is a very short, recent work by a prominent Dartmouth historian about the tribe that defined the frontier in this part of the country. A lot of people assume that mostly Cherokees lived in this area, but in truth the Shawnees were the most; important pre-European people. They actually still have a local presence. A pair of brothers who participate in PowWows built my parents' new roof last year. They married sisters who have gone to church with us on occasion, btw.

Anyway, I've long thought the Shawnee were an interesting tribe. They resisted European settlement more stubbornly than perhaps any other eastern tribe.
